It`s very nice and old church with some rich history linked to it. But you need a reservation in order to visit it - at least 30 min before the visit (there is a phone number on the fence). Despite that it`s worth it. There are some nice frescos in this church.

The frescoes are as good, the setting is sublime and the opportunity for photos make this a better attraction than the excellent Church of Nativity down the road. Better still, see both for some exquisite joy

I was pleasantly surprised by this church. It's a tiny church but has magnificent frescoes that take your breath away. The guide was very friendly and did her best to tell us about the paintings. I highly recommend seeing this church if you visit Veliko Tarnovo.

Tsvetana

A little bit in the background compared to Tsarevets and the old town, but this church gives a good insight into the history and culture of the old Bulgarian kingdoms. It must be noted that this church remained the only big church in Tarnovo, undemolished after the conquest of the Ottomans. After the Bulgarian Orthodox church lost its indeendence after the conquest and went under the jurisdiction of the patriarchate of Constantinople(Istanbul), this church served as the main church of the Tarnovo eparchy, a so-called main eparchy among equals of the Bulgarian eparchies in the Constantinople Orthodox church. Therefore thestatus of this church was very special and it remained undamaged right until the big earthquake in the beginning of 20th century. The nowadays facade very much a result of restoration work, but the inner preserved frescos are original from 14th century and later.Definitely pay additional 5 or 10 leva (I forgot the fee) for a guided tour with the museum representative on site. These people can answer all your questions and are invaluable at sites where there's much more history than one can see in the first place while looking at the ruins or at sites with humble outlook as this church. The entrance fee is quite low, some 2-5 leva per person (again I don't rememer the exact amount). The fee for photographs is 10 leva.

If you like icons and frescoes you won't want to miss this church. To eyes accustomed to Western European art they look to be medieval though in fact they date from the 16th and 17th centuries.
