My wife and I went for a one-day trip to Villach (Villaco in Italian) from nearby Friuli (mid-December 2014). We had hoped to visit the Landskron Castle and the local "Stadtmuseum", but both were closed. The Villacher Alpenstrasse was an obvious no-go as it was snowing in the mountains. So, we took the "low" (but safe) road and embarked on a trip around Lake Ossiach. This trip was certainly not a disappointment; we were impressed by the serenity of the region, and convinced by the many recreative opportunities it will have in higher seasons (camping, hitchhiking, sailing, etc.). Taking the northern road from Villach first, we came along the Annenheim, Sattendorf, Bodensdorf and Steindorf villages; and returning along the Southern road, we passed the extended Ossiach village that gave the lake it's name. Everthing was closed. At Steindorf, our attention was struck by "Das Steinhaus" with its uncommon but "arty" design. We found that it has been designed by architect Gunther Domenig. To conclude our Lake Ossiach experience: beautifully silent in winter, but certainly entertaining in other seasons.
We went there for a wedding and we were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the landscape! Photos fail to show how lovely it is... Just around the Karinthischen Alpen, so much green, so beautiful little villages... We also took a Schiffahrt around the lake and it was very beautiful and peaceful, even though it was raining. The area around the lake is also beautifully set, I would definitely recommend it for short, peaceful vacation. There are many places around the lake to eat, drink your coffee or just relax! We loved it.
Quiet, resting amid lovely hills, with piqturesque villages popping up through dark green woods all around.. Lovely lake with wonderful reflections of the countryside and sky.
The Ossiacher Lake is a very deep green, which is very refreshing. The area is very quiet and relaxing. There are very few motor boats and very little tourism at this lake in comparison to other Carinthian lakes. The water quality is tip top!
A little off the tourist route, this is lovely village, stunning location with amenities for all the family. You can swim in the clear lake, take a boat out or take a trip around the lake. The Abbey and church are gorgeous, and there is a great choice of places to eat, all styles.
It was not crowded and beautiful; surrounded by hills.Lovely for relaxing and swimming. The restaurants in it are not the best though but there is a little supermarket to buy simple things.
Magic place for spending time in any part of the year. We use to stay in Bodensdorf in the beginning of the year (every the first weekend) in a condo in KMB. Right next to the Austrian (Slovenian) border. From there you could easy reach the ski slopes in Gerlitzen alps. Recommended.
The view from the camping site along the lake was perfect to camp and walk around. The bathroom was neat and tidy.
its a beutiful lake.you can sit besides the lake and enjoy the view or rent a small boat and move in the lake, the best part is you can rent whichever boat u like.
I cycled there from Villach city center during the snow was still thick.Nice scenery, good cycling path.
Lovely lake to take a trip around by boat. Nice places on the shores to visit including the Gerlitzen and Ossiach. Wonderful views and very peaceful around the lake, quieter and less commercial than some of the other lakes.
Very beautiful place, so peaceful! A must see when visiting Carinthia region. Spend a wonderful day there visiting the old monastery or take a boat tour!
