We know, and have visited nearly all the various beaches around Plakias, and somehow or other left this until last. Big mistake on our part! We'll be back again next year as it ticks all our boxes for family beach days. Great snorkelling to be had along the rock faces where you just lose yourself with the fish. A couple of tavernas right beside the beach offer shady respite from the hot sun with lunch and dinner options. Just remember the naturists occupy the left hand side of the beach as you face the sea. We're no prudes, each to their own, but our kids just weren't quite ready for that!
Souda is about 50/60 min walk from Plakias along a quiet coast road. It is a very quiet beach kept very clean with lovely water, but the sea here is very deep. It very quickly drops away so I would not say it is suitable for children, but it is good for divers and snorkellers. It has 2 beach tavernas.
Walked from Plakias and taxied back after a meal and drinks at the taverna.Spent most of the day lounging on the beach. The naturist end is lovely, with a lovely laid back feel to it. If you feel uncomfortable around naked people then you have the rest of this natural bay to use, it is big enough for everyone.
It's a silent Beach With 3 Places to eat a lunch. The sand is With small stones With lovely Clear water. A thing that we disliked was the sunbed's. They where too old and withinn 5 min you couldn't lie on them anymore, so we left. It need a "facelift" here.
Really good beach for young children with small waves and shallow water but be aware of the nudists, big sign saying that it's not welcome but they obviously don't read English or Greek.
An hour by car from Rethymno. No charge for chairs, and the water was great. Snorkeling on the right side along the rocks is fantastic, albeit not the Carribean. Shower available, as are tavernas for a nice drink. We had a fantastic lunch in Sellia on the way back but we couldnt find it listed. They have a trip advisor sticker on the door.
Lovely beach, when its windy it is more sheltered than the main beach. Water brilliant for swimming and many rocks great for snorkeling round. And of course the pleasant, friendly sun bed attendant Harry, always at the ready with a smile.
As this beach is on the south of the island, there is much less people than on the north. Amazing views, perfect snorkeling area, restaurants on the beach and parking area. This beach is about 5 minutes from Plakias and is in a very nice bay - there are no waves, especially when there is a strong wind on the north. You can also find some shadow from rocks.
Only 2,5 km west of Plakias, much better than Plakias Beach. Wide, safe and spectacular. A small restaurant a beach bar on the West end of it.
Another wonderful place in Crete. Clear beach and water at the sea, there are some trees for people who prefer shadows. The best time to find good spot and parking is early at the morning.
Get down EARLY, nearest end to Plakias has kayaking. Park by far end Cafe Shack for free parking=purchases, includes loungers & umbrellas.Beautiful for snorkeling. Beach is shingle but very clean.Adjacent road used for very busy parking.Has a couple of local ducks and geese wandering around, but no trouble.
Love this little beach with towering cliffs at the end, sheltered little bay and we had some interesting visitors greet us, sun lounges and umbrellas free if you buy something at the cafe nearby, I don't know who owns the ducks or geese but they were cute see video
This beach was really nice and if the wind blows it is sheletered. It has a beach Kantina and two Tavernas which are a great place for a snack and drink.Be careful when entering the beach you may see more than you bargained for at one end(furthest from the Tavernas)
This beach is 3km from Plakias, there is a tarmac road so you can drive there and it is not so far that you cannot walk there easily, although in the main summer months it does get very hot walking depending on the time of day. There are places along the way to stop for some refreshment. Local taxis will also take you there or just pick you up if you prefer. There are 2 lovely tavernas, for coffee, drinks, lunch or dinner. On a Wednesday evening one has a live music night. The beach is quiet and clean and the water lovely although it does shelve quite quickly. There are some umbrellas and sunbeds for hire but, also plenty of space for you to lie on your own towels and trees at the back for welcome shade. The one end (furthest away from the tavernas) is accepted as a place for naturists to sunbathe and swim.
schöne Bucht, teils grober Sand, teils Kies. Teilweise mit Liegen u. Schirmen versehen. Am Ende der Bucht führt ein kleiner Bach zum Meer.
