施佩耶尔大教堂

我们在2007年12月参观了施佩耶尔大教堂,对这个大楼的建筑印象很深刻。每一片砖瓦都布置得如此的精致,难怪建造它花了一百年的时间。教堂坐落于施佩耶尔以前的中心位置,有一个很大的停车场。在教堂下面据说是一个世界上最大的地下室,我们相当失望,由于一个纪念日,那天地下室关闭了。给游客一点建议:不要只在他们的网站上看教堂是否开发,也要打个电话给他们确定在你想去旅行的那一天能参观所有的东西。教堂的里面很漂亮,每一扇窗子的下面都有一幅漂亮的画,当太阳照到它,所有东西都亮起来的时候,你就会起鸡皮疙瘩。

对于大教堂方面我并不是专家,但这座教堂确实是块珍宝!教堂外面很漂亮,也很可爱,里面空旷而又明亮。教堂下面的墓地里不黑也不闷,而且有醒目的标志,装修的也很漂亮。这座教堂足以成为让你去参观施佩耶尔这座可爱的城市的理由了。

I am not sure I am even allowed to say that the most impressive, huge and best kept Romanesque cathedral in Europe is a bit bland ... but it was. I was expecting a bit more color, some large and impressive paintings etc, but instead it was a very modest looking cathedral. I can absolutely recommend visiting it, for sure, but perhaps do not expect an interior matching the exterior.

If you like history and you like churches you will enjoy the Speyer Cathedral. Plan about a one hour visit to take it all in.

The Dom of Speyer is hughe, although outdoors it is more impressive than inside. Advise to hire a guide.

I guess I've gotten fairly jaded over the last year having visited over a hundred Cathedrals in Germany and France. This was appears to have been recently (within the last 100 years) fully restored and does not have the majestic beauty of some of the others I've seen. Now to the Church itself, make sure you go to the front entrance and look up, there is a beautiful mosaic above, but since the front doors are closed many people probably never even see it. Once in the Church there are more mosaics along the sides of the Nave that were beautiful. The Apse, and crossing were also nice, but not spectacular like many of the other churches. The Cathedral itself was massive on the outside and dominated the skyline and parts of it were very beautiful, but again it pales with some of the others. We also did not pay the 3.50Euro fee to visit the Crypts, so I cannot add to other comments about this area. If you are in Speyer, it is definitely worth a visit, but don't come here just to see this average Cathedral.

Very impressive church. When we visited, the Christmas stable was still on display. Marvellous! The whole church works very quieting. The paintings on the walls are very nice, telling the stories of the bible. Although it is a Gothic cathedral,who tends to are rather dark, it is rather bright. Worth an extra visit!

The building is very impressive in its size and massive construction. It is however quite dark and very plain inside. Its history is more interesting than its visual appeal, particularly inside. Worth visiting if in the area, but not worth a special trip to see it.

While this Dom has lots of historical significance to Germany, the Kaisers, and the Holy Roman Empire, it was very plain and had little information posted about the history (I suppose they want you to pay for the audio guide). The gothic Protestant Memorial church in Speyer looked much more interesting but they open late in the afternoon. If you are in the area, stop by but don't make a special trip.

Beautiful Cathedral with a lot of history. The kings were berried there and you should see the catacombs and have a tour. I was lucky enough to present a Mass and it was beautiful! The space is really acoustic so the singing is really nice. For me a central part and place to see in Speyer!

Another Bl---y Cathedral, yet different. This was not so much about the stain glass windows or the Alters but more about the construction. An amazingly solid building that makes you wonder how it was constructed without the use of cranes and other modern aids.

The cathedral was beautiful - well worth a stop. It doesn't require a large amount of time but it was worth a stop.

This cathedral is so rich in history. The beautiful towering columns, the artistry on the tall front doors, the crypt under the church is amazing. To view the church and understand it's survival during all the wars this country has been through is mind blowing. A must see if you are in the area.
