Saint Moritz lake is a thing to be seen. Been there in the winter with the lake all frozen. It's a rare oportunity to drink a chocolat on a frozen lake watching the Alpine peaks.
We arrived via a marvellous train journey across the snow covered mountains so was overjoyed to find this huge lake frozen over.We spent 10 or 15 mins going back to childhood and played snow angels before we had a very slow walk around the lake. The have racing on the lake so most of it was set up as a course but nobody minded us having a mooch aboutThe scenery is to die for and if there is a more beautiful place on earth then I want to see itPlenty of benches around so you can sit and admire this wonderful placeWill come back one day when the ice has melted and the lake is back to being a lake again but I doubt I will enjoy as muchYou can miss it, it's at the bottom of town just below the bus station
A group of us together with our trainer took two horses to compete in this meeting. We had a first two seconds, one fifth and one sixth places. Both horses received prize money in all their races. The meeting was well organised and I would recommend it as a fantastic weekend. People were very friendly.
Wanted to see what all the fuss is about at St Moritz and while I missed it by going in the low season, had a fantastic day trip on Swiss trains and walking around the town on a cold day admiring the stunning mountains, snow and lake. Want to go back when the ski season is in full swing.
If you are interested in Nature and have time at your disposal, you must go to the lake armed with your cameras. Basically all cities/towns look the same but any water body near it enhances the appeal of the town. So is the case with St. Moritz. Without the lake being there, the allure of the city simply would not been as great as at present. The road or path that it actually is, more or less goes all around the lake. The benches - with St. Moritz carved on the back-rests, are very alluring and you can rest while you photograph or film the stupendous view.Lake St. Moritz is a wonderful water-body and a must visit on your travel itinerary.
We travelled out of season, it it still had a beauty of its own, we had a little walk round it, it calm and bigger then I thought it was.Highly recommend it
Since we were short of time, could not do a stroll along the lake. But had a good time in one portion of lake. There were some road work happening next to the lake which actually spoiled a bit of the environment. Would be a excellent outing for a romantic one day trip, sure.
Because of time allowed with our tour group, we had only 30 min to spend at St Moritz. We decided to have a leisurely walk around the lake shore. The lake was not big compared to other lakes in Switzerland. There was a stone church by the lake. Flowers were blooming even in late September. We wish we had more time to explore the lake and the old town
We got up early to spend some quality time at Lake St. Moritz. We stopped at the train station at Tiefencastle and found a very large display of colorful flowers bt the train station. We took the train to St Moritz and the beauty of Lake St. Moritz just overcame me. We walked along the shoreline and took photo oppertunities. Then we took a multi level long esculater far up to the main part of the city. We shopped for a while and couldnt afford to buy anything so we took the multi esculater down to spend the day enjoying the lake. We walked the shoreline for hours and then it was time to train home in Verbella.
Was aware that St Moritz was a ski resort & frequented by the rich & those who wished to be "seen" but unaware of it's spectacular setting beside the lake & what can best be described as Upper St Moritz & Lower St Moritz. Upper St Moritz is the old village which is easily accessible from the Railway Station by walking up a ramp, through a car park to reach the first of three escalators which deliver you to the the heart of luxery where it seems price tags of goods in shop windows have also escalated with ease. I am sure that Upper St Moritz will bear little resemblance to the original mountain village it has beautiful buildings on a grand scale & perfectly maintained, a treat to the eye with no litter or graffiti. Lower St Moritz was in another world " coming down to earth" was the phrase that came to mind in every way.Smaller modern buildings situated at the side of the lake where ordainary people went about their business.
If you can spend an hour or so walking alongside the Lake St. Moritz, you would not regret by its beauty and surrounding calm atmosphere. A church is located beside it.
