This place is really gorgeous both inside and out. The video display is very informative and explains about the history and importance of the Cathedral to the people of Derry. The staff here are very knowledgeable and friendly.
Loved the DVD of the history of the cathedral. Took me back to times when the Brownies used to parade to it. Loved the refernces to Cecil Frances Alexander and her hymnwriting. All in all, very well presented, warm and inviting to visit. Worth seeing if you are in the area.
We visited whilst having a very quick walk on the walls on a wet and windy day. So glad we did. The building is beautiful and full of history. Our party ranged from 12 year old twins to my Mother in her later 70's. Every one of us loved it. A very helpful and informative tour guide came over to us and made sure every one of our family was kept entertained and interested. No entrance charge but a suggested donation of a couple of pounds which we happily paid and more as was so good. Thank you.
There is no charge to enter St. Columb's Cathedral. Visitors are asked to make a voluntary donation if they wish to do so. There is a small charge of £2 to take photographs in the main body of the Cathedral. This is usually waived if the visitor has made a voluntary donation. Photographs are not allowed in the Chapter House Museum due to the fragile nature of some of the material on display there. You should not have been ask to pay for entry and I'm sorry that this has happened. We'll be happy to refund that charge if you email with your details.
Located within the wallsThe Cathedral has wonderful architecture and it was pleasant to find a warm Cathedral. The flags (Colours) of various regiments hang on the walls above your head. I am not religious at all, but I liked this Cathedral.
This beautiful cathedral dominates the skyline and is Londonderry's oldest building with an amazing history, much of it associated to the famous siege which locals rightly feel enormously proud of the way the city and its people bravely fought against invading forces. Beautiful stained glass windows, the oldest peal of bells in Ireland and a fantastic museum which should not be missed.
Attended the Christmas Carol Service in December 2014 and it was a great night, very peaceful and really put me in the Christmas Spirit and allowed me to appreciate the great architecture and ambiance of this great Cathedral. A Great Night Enjoyed by all and we will be back next year to enjoy the same again!!Thank You!
well worth a visit, this is a lovely little cathedral with an interesting local history display. Recommended.
It was a peaceful experience seating in the church attending the sunday mass although not full service as we had a bus to catch. But that was my first time attending church service and it was a good experience.
This is a fantastic church building. The history is amazing. A church with cannon on the roof. This building sums up Derry and Northern Ireland. Christ and Caesar go hand in hand. The sword in one hand and the bible in the other. The conquerors and the conquered. The colonised and the colonist.Ironically as I visited this outstanding building I was reading a book of short stories about the troubles in Ulster and one quote was in relation to this very building. The quote was from an inscription in the church from a colonist viewpoint and the other the saa similar quote from the colonised viewpoint. The colonist view :If stones could speakethen Londons prayseshould sound whobuilt this cittie and church from the groundeThen the colonised viewIf stones could speak then Irelands painshould sound whodrove the Gaelic people from their ancient groundeI thought that this really sums up the troubles in Northern Ireland. Fantastic church although cannons ion the roof would have diminished the purpose of the building
This is a beautiful building with a history that goes back centuries. I personally do not connect with this particular faith however I felt tremendous satisfaction visiting this cathedral. Externally and internally this place is great. The small museum inside the cathedral is quite fascinating and should not be missed.
This is a lovely cathedral which is open to the public for viewing Mon-Sat when there are no masses in progress.
4 million spent on the renovation project. Amazing to see the magnificent Cathedral.Lovely guides eager to share their knowledge. This is free to view and I would highly recommend a visit.
Well worth a visit if you are walking the walls and has some historical artefacts inside as well. No charge but has a donation box
This is not to be missed, it has just had a 2 million euro updating and is a work of art. You cannot take photos without paying of the interior but you can take all you like of the beautiful exterior.
