very quaint, family-owned, all by itself on the side of the road, clean restroom, curbside ice cream ordering, selection of cheeses, meats and plenty of milk and ice cream, good picture opportunity with the large oversized cow statute in the front, milk and I cream both taste pretty good and you feel good about having something so natural
This is a fine, family-owned, folksy dairy place. They operate a dairy and the retail outlet. The ice cream is to die for. They have several flavors and vary the flavors constantly. My favorite is butter-pecan. You can get a free taste before you choose. You can get a cone or a cup, pint, quart or more. They also sell dairy fresh milk and other dairy products. The service is always with a smile. You can spot the store easily because it has a larger-than-life cow standing on the west side of Route 129 about 5 miles south of Cleveland, GA.
This was some of the best ice cream and milk that I have ever had. I had the peach ice cream and while it didn't have chunks of peaches it did have a great peach flavor to it. It was so creamy it left me feeling like I had put chapstick on my lips. My husband had the vanilla and he also really liked it. We also each had a pint of milk and this was the best milk we have ever had. I love how it was non homogenized and so much better for me than your standard grocery store milk. The clerk was also very friendly and knowledgeable about the cows and the dairy and the processes for making the milk.
They have simply the BEST tasting milk products in NE Georgia! Their ice cream doesn't have that funky aftertaste you often find w/commercially homogenized products. Cream like we used to have straight from the cow.
I wanted to take the family out for some good ice cream after Sunday brunch. I searched Google maps and found Mountain Fresh. What a nice little store! Fresh milk, cheeses and even select cuts of meat. The ice cream being served from the silo out front was fresh and delicious. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back.
After a day or weekend trip of exploring, camping or hiking in the north Georgia mountains, this is the perfect little place to stop and enjoy some locally made ice cream. Watch for the little roadside silo and the giant cow on the right hand side of the road. Our family tried the chocolate, birthday cake and salted caramel flavors and all were hits! Next time we're trying one of the recommended homemade milk shakes. Afterwards we visited the creamery store ... they offer Mountain Fresh Creamery milk, cheese and butter along with local ground sausage and ground beef - also some other north Georgia goodies as well. We opted for some of their butter this trip. Our family recommends!
This small family owed farm and creamery is a must stop if you are in the area. Outside you'll find the "silo" where you can order shakes and ice cream by the scoop. But also be sure to visit the store inside for some take home goodies. You'll always find milk, often milked from the cow and bottled the same day. They do not have all types of milk all of the time as this is a fresh made operation. If they make a batch and run out, they're out til they make more. But you'll usually find at the minimum whole milk, low fat and chocolate milk. Buttermilk shows up from time to time as does cream, and expect eggnog during the holidays. In addition to milk you'll find ice cream of various flavors, again whatever they've made recently. And it is not uncommon to find butter and cheese. In addition to stuff made by the family, they also feature other local items from other farms on occasion such as sausage, ground beef and even vegetables when in season.I have to say this is the best milk and ice cream I've ever had. I'm not a huge "organic" shopper, but wow you can really taste the freshness in this. No hormones or antibiotics and the milk is non-homogenized. You can REALLY taste the difference. You'll find the creamery in a big red barn with a ginormous cow out front on Cleveland Hwy in the foot hills of the North Georgia Mountains about 60-70 miles north of Atlanta. Well worth a stop if you find yourself touring local attractions such as Lake Lanier, Babyland General or Helen, GA. Try the ice cream in the silo and I guarantee you'll go inside and buy more to take home.
A great stop if you are in the neighborhood. There is a store that sells dairy products made at the creamery and local honey, jelly and seasonal veggies. In the silo is the ice cream store and you can get scoops in cones, waffle cones or cups. The peach was scrumptious and obviously made with fresh peaches. Strawberry was yummy as well. The vanilla had no vanilla and was really just "plain" - fresh, but cream flavored. Unfortunately they were out of coffee toffee and salted caramel so we didn't get to try them. They have a giant cow to visit and a hand-made cow that can be "milked", which my kids enjoyed very much. The staff were friendly and patient with our large group and obviously took pride in their products. We brought home 2 gallons of delicious grass-fed milk.
On a Sunday after church my family and I wanted to visit this creamery because we get the milk in Jaemor all the time. Well it was well worth it. The ice cream is the best ice cream I've ever tasted!!! My husband said the same thing!
The ice cream is unbelievable! I had a vanilla milkshake and could not believe how awesome each sip was!!! The Salted Caramel is out of this world. I can't wait to get back here with a cooler so I can take home some ice cream and milk.
By far the best milkshake I have ever had. I could take the freshness of the milk in every sip. My wife's chocolate ice cream was fantastic too. Looking forward to the next time we go!!!
It is just great to have a creamery where you can get un-homogenized milk, for making your own quick mozzarella or ricotta. But, I've never been able to buy cream or butter there, they are always out of it. We were so hoping that they made good ice cream that they scoop out of a roadside "silo", so cute in it's pristine country setting. But alas, the ice cream is good but the flavors fall flat. Strawberry and peach flavors have so little fruit in them you cannot detect any flavor, the butter pecan is only OK. How can they spend great energy on making wonderful ice cream and not care about flavor? It's not going to be a stop on our trips to Gainesville anymore, after 2 tries, it just didn't cut it.
My family stopped by Mountain Fresh Creamery today. They carry various fresh dairy products in their store (milk, butter, buttermilk, ice cream) & also have a silo where you can grab fresh ice cream & milkshakes. The milkshake was the best I have ever had! The milk is fresh & is non homegenized which is gives is a wonderful creamy taste. We will be making a return visit soon.
