The course is getting better. There are less bare spots on the fairways, and the greens are in good shape. My biggest gripe is that you cannot buy a beverage and take it out on the course. However, you can buy a beer from the refreshment cart. The problem is, we never see it. We have been at Huukan 3 times in the passed week, and have not seen it yet. Do you managers have any idea how much money you are losing out on??? I understand that the cost of the liquor permits is quite high, but I believe you would make that up quite quickly. Not only would we like to have a drink, but then we would stop at the clubhouse for a meal too. We don't even go in there now. People will pay $5 or $6 for a beer or drink on the course, and will do that 2 or 3 times in a round. This is the only course we have ever played at that has this ridiculous policy.
A nice quiet place. We had breakfast and it was good. We've been their a couple of times and will go again.
The Fort Mohave Indian Tribe has bought Desert Lakes Golf Course and changed the name to Huukan. It is still in very bad shape, but they have promised to bring it back to its former glory and then some. They promise to get it in the same green shape as their other golf course across the river, at the Avi Casino. Since they own all the water around here, that will not be a problem. I just hope it happens soon. this course is so dry and brown, it is sad. Since I live on the golf course, I am looking forward to the green coming back.
Course was in bad shape. The greens were okay and the fairways were decent if you didn't mind bumping your ball but the rough was basically a dirt field. No doormat glass at all and needed a lot of TLC. Pay a few bucks more and play down the street at another course.
We played this course today, and it was ok. The most disappointing thing is that the cafe and bar is not fully open. At the turn, we would have liked a bite to eat, but settled for a bag of chips. We used to be able to get a meal there either at the turn or after our round, but, no more. Why? This is certainly not the only course with coot problems, so I suppose you just have to deal with it. Overall, it was good for the "Golf Now" price we paid.
This is our 3rd year we have played there and they always treat us well! Eddie & Linda are the best!!!Course was in great shape .
This golf course was once a must play course. Sadly it has had 3 owners over the past 4 years with each doing a progressively worse job maintaining it. It has now become the worst golf course in the Mohave Valley and is not worthy of a play. They have stopped watering the rough which is now returning to desert and even now one can see what a terrible overseed they have got this year. Add the coot problem they have each winter ....well save your money and golf one of the other area courses.
if you like cow pastures with houses all around it. and love 120 degree heat , you will love this course. of alll the courses in the area , this is the worse
This golf course was not being maintained very well prior to being sold. New owner fired grounds keeper, "clubhouse" staff as soon as they took control. The "clubhouse" restaurant is no longer open, there is more dirt than grass. Not recommended at all.
The price was right, but the course left a lot to be desired with numerous "coots" around the course; it was also quite burned out when we played there. The employees were quite good to us, and we were treated fairly.
This was once a fine course to play, now not even the $29 I paid with a lunch. They say they are trying to bring it back, but for now. Look it over.
Best Value Around, Hands Down. Other Golf Courses In The Area Charge You More If Your From Out Of Town. This Course's Highest Rate Is Only $35 And It Is Every Bit As Good As Any Of The Other Courses In The Laughlin Area.
Mar. 7th 2008: The course was in terrible shape, luckily we checked it out before we played and were able to cancel and make a tee time somewhere else. Nothing like the internet pictures or the reviews.
When the tee times were made, the price of $60 was quoted. When we arrived, they did not honor the $60 quoted price and we had to pay $80. The man behind the counter told us we were getting a deal because green fees were actually over $100. The greens were poorly mowed; the contoures of the greens were mostly all scalped and dead. The bunkers were filled with gravel-like "sand". The greens near the water hazards were overrun with ducks/coots and their droppings were everywhere making it nearly impossible to putt on those greens. The areas around bunkers and tee boxes and along cart paths were all over run with the weedy/viney bermuda grass stuff which most all other golf coursed seem to keep trimmed up. Previous hole placements were poorly plugged. When the $80 green fee was question, we were told this was "peak season, weekend rates"...but there was no beverage cart service and there was no water in the on course water coolers. Our group was very disappointed.
I have been to the Laughlin / Bullhead City area numerous times. Each time I travel to the area I always play at Desert Lakes. The quality of the golf course, the facilities, and the friendly staff have always been great. I would highly recommend this golf course to any person(s) travelling to the area.Great facility.Thank you.
