historic district

I would have loved to visit all the interesting stores, antique shops and other sites in this district but not one of them opened before 10 am or later. What a pity!

Quaint, area with some beautiful old buildings. Love the plaque where the hangin tree was. Some great shops to look in. Many are closed on Siunday. Great place to walk. Good photo opportunities.

I took the self guided tour of the towns historic district. It was quite interesting to read the history of the buildings as well as some of their unique construction characteristics. For example, the old Elks building is the tallest three story building in the USA.

Both Pretty Patty Lou's and White Porch, both eclectic shops with unusual finds... antiques but so much more ! Loved the shops, both of them ... only wish they had hot tea in each one... can't have everything !

Globe's historic downtown (mostly on and just off of Broad Street) is the heart of this community. It offers tourist destinations like the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts, the old jail and sheriff's office, restaurants, historic bed-and-breakfasts, bars and taverns, antique stores, clothing boutiques, and the regional movie theater. It also bustles during business hours with banks, lawyers' offices, automotive sales, the local dance studio, heating and a/c servicing, beauty salons, the florist, and a radiator service shop (to name a few). This is a true downtown where people say "hello", do business, live above shops, gather for parades and festivals, and families walk at night to look in shop windows. Volunteers plant flowers, paint older buildings, and fix street benches. If you are enchanted by the spirit of this place, please know there are several historic buildings awaiting a loving touch and new business venture.

This old, 1876, historic copper mining town is still alive and thriving. Bring your walking shoes and your camera, as one of the oldest towns in Arizona, there is much to learn and experience about the pioneers, cattlemen, outlaws and miners who settled Arizona. Close to the San Carlos Indian Reservation, Roosevelt Lake, Tonto National Monument, the Apache Trail and the Old Dominion Mining Park there is much to see and much to do here. Well known as having the "best Mexican food" in Arizona, you won't go hungry. Globe has charming B&B's, a friendly atmosphere, and as much history as you want to experience. A short scenic drive from Tucson or Phoenix, the sights won't disappoint. Stop by the Gila County Historical Society in the old Mine Rescue Station, their historical records, knowledge of the area and exhibits are not only entertaining, but also educational. A delightful visit start to finish.

Every second Saturday of the month, the downtown area does something "extra", like a street festival, jumbo sale, etc. DON'T MISS THE HISTORIC JAIL, which is open for tours on Second Saturdays, and by request (through the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts, 928.425.0884).

What a great town to visit - the Historic district has so many neat shops and taverns. You must go to the Drift Inn Saloon. There is some much history on Doc Halliday and Wyatt Earp and their wives/girlfriends around the town. Well worth the trip from Phoenix.

Globe has a terrific walking tour that tells the history of Globe the downtown area. What make's it like Mayberry are the people. Stop into a shop or one of the local coffee shops and start chatting with the shop keepers-they are all friendly and will tell you where you can find what in town. Like lot's of specialty shops and antique stores to find hidden gems. I have several favorites, like the Pickle Barrel where you can find antiques, interesting wrought iron, local jewelry, native apache crafts and so much more-they are open 7 days a week and also have an antique map you can pick up for both the Globe and Miami antique stores. Another favorite store is Pretty Patty Lou's-love her specialty soaps and gifts-especially her sugar scrub and face cream. Their are several restaurants to choose from as well as local bars to hang with the locals. The Cobre Valley Center for the Arts hosts downtown festivals and wonderful art-as well as plays and musicals throughout the year-Don't miss the annual quilt show in the spring-Beat the heat and have an old fashioned 4th of July at their annual Summer fest-stay another day to watch the fireworks!

Sorry to see that the Sleeping Beauty mine and Sleeping Beauty store is closed but had a nice morning wandering around the historic district and shops

My fiance' and I enjoyed walking around the historic district. The old county courthouse was very interesting with lots of local artist paintings displayed. The guide who greeted us was extremely friendly and accommodating even showing us things to do in the area on a map from the local paper. She even offered to call the volunteer guide for the old jail to give us a tour. Unfortunately, the downtown is not booming with many shops uninhabited and deteriorating. I think this downtown has a lot ot potential if the town would encourage businesses to move in and attract all of us folks from Phoenix! It is a beautiful area!

I loved taking pictures and going around to all the different shops. Lots can be done while on foot here.

Globe was nice, larger than I thought it was going to be, must have a car to get around. Nice place.

Loved the history, didn't dislike any of it. Enjoyed meeting the people and talking about the history. Lots of antique shops. Awesome!

I wish the down town could prosper more but I am sure the Walmart presence assured that people don't go downtown for everyday needs any more. I love the buildings and the history.
