We visited jail. It was part of our jeep tour. The owner of property was near by and came over to greet us. Joe was very nice and knowledgeable. His family has been there since the early 1900's. We learned a lot especially about Italian's contribution in the old west. We made a friend with Joe. Thanks Joe.
This little place is worth the time to stop by for a visit. I would recommend this be placed on your list of places to see.
We were able to enter this jail via a jeep tour, and it was fascinating. Very small, and it had been closed for awhile when we entered -- yet it was cool as could be. Shows the power of the adobe construction. There's only two room, both meant to be jail cells, though they were set up with numerous historical displays and artifacts. Fascinating in several ways, and worth viewing.
The whole town of Gleeson is awesome. There are still some nice old adobes to see. The Gleeson jail has been purchased and renovated. I'm so happy that at least one of the old buildings is being preserved. Good job!
we loved the fact it was still there, and you can go in and take pictures, in the jail for free, also its near a saloon!!!!!go in the morning when its sort of slow,
Built in the tradition! OUT INTO THE WEST TOURS brought us here and it was fantastic. A important part of the WEST! Great Job as always MARK!!!!
We did a jeep tour recently and were taken to the historic Gleeson Jail. It is very interesting and worth a look if you get a chance. This Jail has been done up and funded by the locals. They have done a fantastic job. Love to see the old pub (where Johnny Ringo once drank) nearby done up so you can go and have a drink there also.
This is a a over 100 year old jail that has been restored - historically correct - and is packed with both local lore - and settling information from the time this area was first considered desirable because of its significant ore and gem deposits. The now Ghost Town of Gleeson is represented best at this location - along with a knowledable host willing to interpret both exhibits and history if an appointment is made. A website -GleesonArizona.com provides a good overview of what can be expected. All ages will benefit from a visit. There is no fee but a voluntary contribution should be considered.
