I called several dive shops about 20 miles north of Parrot Island Scuba, looking for a dive boat. Captain Jerry was HIGHLY recommended by 2 different shops, even though he was much further south, and there were dive boats near those shops, which gave me good confidence. They were right; captain Jerry and crew were very professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and thoroughly explained each dive location down to exact details. We returned for the holiday break and were able to start the year right, going out for a set of New Years day dives; our third trip with Parrot Island Scuba.
Capt. Jerry and Divemaster Kim run an outstanding dive operation. I dove with them over 2 days and found them both professional and fun! Jerry has great knowledge of the local area, and kept a watchful eye over all divers under water, keeping other boats away. On both days, most of the divers were locals who regularly dive with them (a great sign of a reliable operation). Bottom times were as long as the divers wanted--no rushing to meet a schedule. I will definitely dive with them again next time I am in town and strongly recommend them.
Took a 2 dive trip with Parrot Island. We were supposed to do the Tri Wreck site, but when we arrived, the captain, Jerry, advised us that he could see how strong the currents were and advised we do drift dives. As a single diver I was paired up with another couple and a photographer and off we went. Good call on Jerry's part as the current was very strongs, and even holding on to something to stay in one place was difficult. On both dives I came up before the others due to air. Set a signal, and did not have to wait long for pickup.Had a great time chatting with Jerry on the way back too. Really friendly crew and a really nice time diving.Only thing that would have made the day better, was less current and better vis, but thats not Parrot Islands fault. :).
My 2 sons and I recently visited Pompano Beach, FL to scuba and visit family. We had never dove in the area and I was looking for a dive boat that was convenient to our resort. I found Parrot Island Scuba Adventures while searching the internet. It is a reputable family run business that has been in Pompano Beach for 13 years. This organization is a class act. The owner was our captain for all 3 dive charters and was extremely accommodating. They were on time and went out of their way to insure that we had a quality experience. I do not believe that they have a dive shop but can meet most rental needs. They run 2 different boats depending on the number of divers going. We enjoyed the Sea Esta on 2 of the 3 days and the larger O Sea D on the other. The boat meets you at the dock in Wm. J. Almsdorf Park. Ample parking is available for $1.25/hr. I made reservations easily online via their website. There did end up being a problem with a couple of the dates that I selected but the owner called me a week in advance to rearrange the times. We discussed my needs and desires and came up with dives that worked better than my original selections. If you are looking for a dive boat with great customer service, look no further. Jerry, owner and captain, was personable and outgoing. He readily shared how he came to operate a dive boat in Pompano Beach and history about the wrecks we dove. Diving in Pompano was very good. The visibility was decent and the sites varied between wrecks and reefs. The area has quite a number of wrecks that were purposely sunk to create artificial reefs. Each dive trip consisted of a wreck dive of about 70' and a reef drift dive of about 40'-50'. There are deeper wrecks available but my sons and I decided to stay within our experience comfort zone this trip. Jerry and Kim were very knowledgeable and provided us with some excellent advice on how to best enjoy each dive.
