pioneer florida museum & village

This pioneer museum was very worthwhile and gave us a great overview of central Florida history. I especially enjoyed learning about the Florida history of cultivating oranges and the process involved in marketing them.

We enjoyed our trip to the pioneer museum. There are some old buildings they've preserved from the old days in Pasco county along with many historical facts from the area.

I have been living in the area for a long time. Every time I have friends visiting, I take them there. It has many original buildings from late 19 century to early 20 century. It is like traveling back in time. The train depot has a working telegraph machine and a train engine. Great for little kids. The many buildings give you a picture how was the life in Florida 100 years ago. Great to take a walk in the property. Very relaxing environment.

We enjoyed our trip to the museum. It probably isn't something that I will go back to again and again, but it was informative and a nice, leisurely way to spend a couple of hours. It is staffed by very knowledgeable volunteers and I applaud the effort to maintain a piece of Florida's history in this place. It isn't glitzy, but it is a real, down home reminder of things past. Worth going to.

We enjoyed our visit to the pioneer museum. It is nice to be able to stroll through the history at your own pace and see many things that bring back memories. The parking lot is grass and as we were on the motorcycle it was the only down side.

Very peaceful. Well kept grounds. The museum mostly is run by volunteers, which take pride in keeping things up. Has paved side walks and ramps into the buildings, so it's very handicap friendly. we went on a Tues., so there weren't many people there.

We came here for the Scarecrow Festival they held so admission was $5 per person over age 5, and it was fantastic! I kind of thought there would be more "pioneer" type things, as there were some more modernized exhibits, however, it was still very informative and interesting to see everything. There is more than one building, so be prepared to walk a lot and stand. There was a petting zoo, a train ride, bouncy houses, face painting, food vendors everywhere. We loved the real train, the antique trucks, and the sampler platter we bought as a snack before the ride home was so good: fried gator, fried shrimp, waffle fries and flounder. Get there by about 1 or 2 to be able to see everything, especially if the day you're visiting is a Festival Day.

I loved how well informed the docents were and how much Old Florida history was included in the tour. The buildings and displays were well done and well kept, and the demonstrations were nicely done and informative.

I love this little place. Let's be honest, it isn't Disney or Busch Gardens; if you want grandeur or rides, go somewhere else. If you want historic Florida and a quick museum to spend a few hours at, this is the place for you. The main building you start your tour at has a gift shop and old Florida history in it. Once you pay for your visit, you may then enter into the courtyard and visit the general store, barn, Orange packing-house, one-room school house, the Overstreet House, etc. They have great history of the area and of Florida. You will walk away with some new knowledge of Florida you didn't know. Also, to get the best bang for your buck, plan your visit around one of their festivals. My favorite has been the Seminole War reenactment, they act out real skirmishes while you watch on from the courtyard area. During the festivals, they will also have vendors of food and crafts. Enjoy! Worth the trip and $8 admission. Great for a local history buff or kids learning Florida History.

This is a place to enjoy at your own pace. Each building is full of things of interest. The grounds are pleasantly homey and relaxing. Bring a picnic lunch if you like.

We pass by the Museum often and finally decided to stop and found out the next day they were having a train show so we went back. Glad we did! The Museum has a lot to see but in addition to visiting the museum and different houses they were making sugar cane syrup and showed the whole process.There were 2 girls walking around with Llamas and encouraging people to pet them.(which the children loved) The train show was also good but more for the train enthusiasts as it was more of a sale than a display. They have different events during the year but the museum itself is definitely worth the money.

A bit disappointed. We drove from New Port Richey to see the museum. It was raining at the time, I checked the website and it said they were opened. When we got there the girl behind the counter basically said she hadn't opened up any of the buildings because it was raining. We told her we drove a good distance to see it but she didn't seem to want to do anything. We were hoping even to be offered to look at the building we were in, but no such invitation. One question: are you open or not? Why not just close and put it on the website so we don't waste a trip. Don't know if we'll be back or not, would have loved to see it or even a portion of it. BTW, the rain cleared out in about an hour....

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It was 8 dollars for adults 4 dollars for children and 6 dollars for seniors (over 55's) unbelievably cheap and we think under priced. Even had on-site free parking. We went on a cold January day and there were only six other visitors there. There's loads of things to see from bygone days and you can wander round the different buildings at your leisure. It's not like modern museums - things are not behind glass and there aren't loads of information boards to read. It was half the price, had many more artefacts and was ten times more interesting than the modern Tampa museum which we also visited. There is an exhibition hall, an actual old school room, church, house, general store, station, etc. There's even a Pa's shed, and a Ma's shed as well as the old outside toilet. We think it offers a very nice way to spend a morning or afternoon and lose yourself in the past.

Easy to do see this place in a short amount of time. Not very big at all and exhibits are small and limited. Would not go out of my way to return.

Wonderful history about our town and state. Good place to take the family. They also have wonderful events throughout the year.You can also book a wedding there.
