Rosie's, since its inception, has been the comfortable local tavern where strangers become friends and everyone feels at home. Women feel comfortable going there alone and the vibe is always one of a neighborhood bar. There is live music several days a week and an outdoor beer garden where your four-legged friends are not only welcome, but are offered cold water and dog treats!
I loved Rosie's! For the time that we lived there, my boyfriend and I became regulars because we loved it so much! Very nice atmosphere, the bartenders are very friendly and remember your name (I think it makes a place more personable). I cannot comment on the beer because I don't drink it, but the wine (moscato- delicious) and sangrias were always good! My boyfriend did love their selection of beers (hoegaarden, schoffenhaufer, grapefruit schoffenhaufer, etc). My MOST favorite thing about this place was the popcorn machine! I loved having some popcorn with my wine!! The only negative is that the place is small, but I think it makes it more of an intimate atmosphere and able to get to know the locals better!
We sampled a great cider in Rosie's bar but I really want to write about the town itself. I was really surprised to find such an interesting town. Its a 'Celtic" town with many Scottish and Irish residents and many bars supplying British beer, cider and food. You even get an authentic pint of gunness,if you like that kind of drink. There is also an Italian restaurant that has a resident trapeze performer at weekends, how cool is that?Watch her perform, while you eat .Another bar has pictures of residents cats and dogs painted by a professional artist, along with the names of each animal, hundreds of pictures both on the outside walls and a few inside. There is 'Live Celtic music' at weekends in several bars with standing room only. There is a great organic market on Saturdays and at Christmas, they close the street for a Medival Fayre with many people dressed in period costumes and lots of goodies to sample. If I lived locally,I would spend my weekends in Dunedin. The town has and 'Olde Worlde' feel about it.I did not expect to find such a place in the USA and everyone wants to make you feel welcome.
If you want a good beer with a good atmosphere, this is the place to be.Staff always friendly and no blaring music, the new patio is perfect for this time of the year.Try the schofferhofer wheat, it's lovely.
