Viking does indeed have some of the most beautiful trails in Vermont. A nice little cafe and a first rate ski shop with friendly folks. But... they do a poor job in grooming their trails outside of the core trails near the touring center. On President's Day they posted all trails were groomed and tracked. Not true. Substantial portions of the trail network had not been groomed for at least a couple of days. Compared to other areas in southern Vermont (Prospect Mountain, Timber Creek, Wild Wings) they consistently do the least grooming on their beautiful trails. If you want scenic beauty and a well groomed trail network in the area, go to Wild Wings in Peru. Very basic facilities, but a great skiing experience.

Lovely trails through the woods and across hilly fields. Lots of ups and downs. A good map handed out. Would be an improvement to have maps posted on the trails. Good warming hut. Friendly service.

Extensive trails of varying difficulty across mostly rolling terrain. They do a good job keeping trails open during low-snow times. You can purchase nice homemade sandwiches and soups.

They offer lighted night skiing on some weekends, be sure to call ahead. We got a few families together and rented the warming house. Very magical evening, kids adults, fast slow, everyone had a blast!

This is a superb place to practice cross country ski, the landscapes are simple awesome, the signs of the trials are perfect, there are easy and difficulkt trials. You MUST do the PINE trial it has one of the best landscapes i have seen in vermont. This place is also children friendlly, family oriented. Highlly recommended and super affordable. You can spend the entire day here.

We took a number of trails and a guided full moon hike. The guides were excellent. The stayed with those that fell behind and moved faster for those in the front. During the day the trails are well marked and the trail map helps to see where you are. They also have lessons and Xcountry skiing.

We got the chance to XC ski and do the full moon snowshoe hike today. The staff was very courteous with our questions on some of our own equipment. Had some good chili for lunch. A friendly group lead the snowshoe hike at night. Hot cocoa and great cookies!

We had our own snowshoes and embarked on a 2 hour hike. The trails were well marked and the map was helpful. Along the way, there was a warming hut and benches to rest. We were surprised at how quiet it was. We felt like we were in the middle of nowhere (which we loved!). After, we had soup, hot cocoa and an incredible grilled cheese at the little cafe.

Our first visit here; plenty of rental equipment for the 4 of us even after arriving at noon on a busy day; the trails were beautiful, well groomed, plenty of parking, lodge had the rental shop and cafe under the same roof with two soups and some sandwiches to choose from plus cookies and hot cocoa, etc.; there was also a warming hut a short distance in at the start of the trails but we didn't go in - it didn't seem frequented by skiiers; trail maps are provided and trails are pretty well marked. There were plenty of "easier" trails with some "more difficult" trails. They also have good quality hats and gloves, ski boots for purchase and probably skiis too. Lessons are available; although it's a bit of a drive, we hope to get back to enjoy the outdoors and exercise for a lot less $ than the downhill mountains we drove past to get here. People of all ages and all levels of ability were seen on the trails.

Skiing in Vermont always puts me in a good mood, so maybe I'm biased, but I love this place. I don't skate, and I don't care about groomed trails so long as there's a good base (no wet or bald spots). I like that Viking has (gently) winding trails that you can ski and enjoy without being an expert - although my less klutzy friends tell me that they like Viking's black trails, too. Really nice operation.

Excellent place for families to try the cross country skiing especially for kids. They will be engaged in a scavenger hunt for snow flakes for a cookie reward. I find this being an excellent idea; otherwise, it is hard to convince young children to ski for 2+ hours. Love it!

This place has been in existence for 40 years and offers some of the best cross-country skiing in Vermont. The trails are beautifully maintained, and go through some very picturesque country. The staff is professional and very friendly. They have rental equipment, instruction, a bed and breakfast inn, and cafe with the best cookies ever! I can't say enough about it!

I went to ski next day after big snowstorm. When I was buying pass, they told me that all trails are freshly groomed – it was not the case – on same trails it was more than 6 inches of non-groomed snow. Also, trails layout is not very good – trails are very narrow, with a lot of unneeded turns, so when you skating, you do not know what to expectLodge is small, you are not allowed to keep you personal staff there, cafeteria is tiny and they are not allow any outside food there.Nevertheless, I had wonderful day – it was a lot of fresh snow and I came early in the morning, so there was almost no people there.Summary: If you go when there is a lot of fresh snow and you could be there early – go, otherwise – go somewhere else, like prospect mountain
