Beautiful historical cemetery set on the highest point in Dayton. Well-preserved via Foundation. Burial place of famous Daytonians, including the Wright Brothers, Erma Bombeck, et al. Historical trees and landscape on interesting hilly terrain.

We went to Woodland to visit our family plot and discovered two fresh, unauthorized graves. Woodland decided to change their rules, without notice to us, and allowed the burial of a woman who was at one time married to my father-in-law AND her current husband who is no relation to our family in our family plot (purchased in 1954 by our Granddaddy). They refused to help us resolve this. We then found out (they record all phone calls) they did not even ask for verification of how these folks were related to our family. We have now been fighting in court, spending way into 6 figures and still have two strangers in our family plot. Woodland has ruined our family's legacy. They are completely incompetent, uncaring and incapable of making an ethical decision. I feel sorry for all of their donors who believe that their donations are maintaining the grounds, when instead they are financing Woodland's 3 lawyers who are doing everything that they can to destroy the dignity and sanctity of our family. BEWARE before your bury at Woodland! They simply do not care about families, preserving heritage or the history of Dayton.

I went to the cemetery to have a look around and left pretty quickly. I saw the Wright Brother's stone heads and stood at the over look of Dayton. Not much to do here. I did notice people running. It's pretty hilly so I bet you could get a great work out here. I would only stop by if its on your way somewhere else.

We tour the cemetery.. Guides were great. I learned a lot. It's a beautiful place. They are several famous Daytonians buried there.

While "attraction" may not be the correct term, this cemetery with it's hilly topology and wonderful view of the surrounding country side, is a wonderful peaceful place to walk and contemplate.

It never would have occurred to me to rate a cemetery as an "attraction", but Woodland is one of my favorite places to just walk, think, and enjoy the surroundings. I've never taken an actual tour of Woodland, but as I recall maps are available to help visitors find the various historic graves located throughout the cemetery. As others have mentioned a number of the gravestones have great stories assoicated with them, some sad, others funny. Not surprisingly, there are also a few ghost stories that are oft repeated, especially around Halloween. My favorite times to visit are the spring and fall, although I've seen winter photos of the stark, snow covered cemetery that are breath taking. Whether visiting the grave of a loved one/historic figure or simply looking for a place to think in beautiful, peaceful surrounds, Woodland is a treasure for locals and visitors alike.

A really neat cemetery tour. Great characters with great stories. I learned there is a LOT of history in the area.

Woodland is absolutely the most beautiful cemetery. If you are in Dayton and love cemeteries it is a definite must visit. I love how peaceful it is even though it has city surrounding it. It was started back in the mid 1800s so designated historic and there are many notable people buried there.

Atop a hill overlooking the city of Dayton. It is a great place for an afternoon stroll. Many of Dayton's major figures are busried here including the Wright Brothers and Paul Laurence Dunbar.

I asked for help in finding a friend's grave. I got printed maps all highlighted. Go see the Tiffany windows and the Tiffany tile floor in the former chapel.

Sure, they have graves of the locally rich and famous (the Wright Brothers being Exhibit A), but it's the serene green that draws me back repeatedly. Located on a lovely glacial moraine, it has views to please anyone. If you need a breather from stress, try a walk here.
