Loved it! Beautiful 360 views when you get on the top. Little hike to get to the top, once you get to the top very easy hike on top. It reminded me more of a plateau then a mountain. I am from Oklahoma so it was a big enough mountain to me. Very enjoyable!
Its pretty short for a mountain and theres stairs the entire way up. Once you get up top, there isn't a whole lot of hiking that you can do. Gorgeous views up top though and very easy to find.
this is a nice little mountain range. really enjoyed the views and scenery and the hike to the top. would go back.
Nice view once you climb the stairs to get to the top. I would say the hike was moderate. Nothing too strenuous. Lots of birds flying around just soaring at the top.
Really pretty, and it only took 10 minutes to walk up the stairs to the top of the mesa from the parking lot. Not bad - in other words its not a "climb." Great place for kids. Once you get up to the top, the views are really nice, you can see all around. Its one of those unique Oklahoma places to see. Definitely worth it.
Shiny mountain with easy access. We climbed it with our children, they led the way! Beautiful scenery from the base, all the way up, and at the top! Well worth the stop!
After I saw this on Google Maps It was something to see in person since NW Oklahoma is pretty much flat. Gypsum is a big thing in this part of the state and I really enjoyed looking at the rocks. We didn't climb to the top as there were some shady people hanging around the parking area. It is stairs to about 20 feet from the top then it looks to be loose gravel to the top. Got some nice photos, good place for sunrise or sunset pictures.
this was a little difficult to find. oklahoma seems to have a problem with signage! we came from palo duro canyon, amarillo.we were following the directions, backwards. you pass several groups of mountains.if you came from orienta, ok., it is the first group of mountains you come to. the first sign, that said gloss mts., pointed to the left. we missed the turn.went down, less than a quarter mile, to turn around. where we turned into, was actually the gloss mt. entry. we didn't realize, at first, that we could drive on down, nearer the entrance to the path up the mountain.there is a bridge, then metal steps, up the mountain. there are some wooden steps. there is a handrail. at the very top, there are no steps. it's a little steep.once at the top, we went to the right, then followed the trail . we were surprised at how far back it goes. it's flat, so it was not strenuous. just when we thouhgt we were near the edge, it would go further back.there were turkey buzzards, that evidently roost there. we got good pics of them.it is worth the hike, to the top-it only takes 10 minutes at the most. the views are gorgeous. you an see for miles and miles.there were views in every direction. and of course, it was windy.
I obtained an OK highway map from OKDOT prior to crossing the state enroute to the Washita National Battlefield. I wanted a scenic route, and a picnic area to eat lunch during our travel. I saw the Gloss Mountains noted on the map, and included the scenic part of US 412 in my route. Imagine my surprise to find a State Park area behind the highway turnout for trucks! A metal staircase and railings ease the climb to the top of the mesa. The view on a sunny spring afternoon was breathtaking - well worth the climb. It reminded me of the Gypsum Hills in southern Kansas. It was a memorable view.
This place is awesome! I love the vie from the top of the mesa. Like another reviewer said, it is worth the climb! My son loves when we go there so he can play in the dirt. Just a suggestion, DO NOT go after a rain. The dirt turns to an awful red stain!!
Gloss Mountain is certainly different, the abundance of Selenite in the formation gives it that "glossy" look, like walking on many tiny mirrors. Spectacular 360 view from the top of the mesa makes the climb well worth the effort.
Beautiful mesas overlooking the Cimarron River Valley. Be prepared to climb. Very nice vista once on the mesa top. Good nature hike
