We happened to catch a day of music, food, and wine tasting at Helvetia this weekend, and the staff were quite lovely learning and using the first name of each of their visitors while we were there. The music certainly had a bit of a boho vibe working for it, and the quirky quesadillas being served were delish. The wines were pretty good, and we ended up walking away with a growler of the gewurztraminer. Wish I were closer to get it filled up again, but the bottle itself is lovely.

Stopped by today on a whim while we were out for a drive. Drove away with two growlers of wine. Nice and helpful people. Nice picnic area if you pack a lunch in. We will be back to refill!

we've bought our christmas trees there a number of times and also enjoyed their wine tasting. the make very decent wines and at a pretty reasonable price.

This winery is close to Portland, where we live, and the drive there is lovely. The couple who run the vineyard are extremely friendly and the tasting room is the kitchen of their farmhouse. We bought a chilled white ($13) and a couple of cans of local salmon and had a picnic in their backyard with cheese and crackers that we had brought with us. Helvetia was a nice change from the high-priced wineries of Dundee, to the south, which charge $10 and more for tastings. (Helvetia charges $5 to taste four wines, but cancels the charge if you buy one of their very reasonably priced bottles.) They also gave us a detailed map of nearby wineries, a nice touch. We will be back!

Beautiful country, and you feel totally out of the hustle here. The wines were average IMHO. Also good for salmon BBQ's and fresh salmon from local fishers.

The Hillsboro countryside is gorgeous. This area used to be called Grape Hill when it was settled and this particular property has been growing grapes for more than 100 years. You get to enjoy the original farmhouse, vintage winery equipment and pictures of Yungen family. There is also a gift shop in an old barn and it looks like they sell Christmas trees too. They do catering, special dinners with pairings and weddings. The owners are delightful, the wife is a former Oregon dignitary and they have some nice dog. They dont push the wines or over compliment them, they just provide the samples, some snacks and tell their stories. The pinot noir is just excellent. We really enjoyed ourselves. Its not far from Portland and just about over an hour from the Pacific Coast. Also in the neighborhood is Helvetia Tavern for a great burger, Alpaca Farms, Lavendar Festival in July and the Roloff Farm from TLC. Its worth a trip.
