When we visit family in Corvallis for a few days, the challenge is always what to do that would be fun for all ages - especially my teenagers. Corvallis simply doesn't have a lot that interests that demographic. Funny thing: Lebanon (population 13,000) has an indoor shooting range while Corvallis (population 60,000) does not. So we picked up some ammo at Bi-Mart and headed to Lebanon, 20 miles & 1/2 hour away - a nice country drive. The range was easy to find and we parked almost in front of it - free parking for 2 hours. The friendly folks inside set us up to share a lane - the rate was $10 per shooter. They allow you to bring your own ammo, or you can purchase at decent prices from them. You must bring your own gun even if you rent one of theirs - they have several available. Targets are inexpensive, starting at 15 cents each for simple bulls-eye targets. They have a decent-sized retail shop with all kinds of stuff, but I didn't check it out - cleaning kits, guns & rifles, targets, standard gun-shop stuff. You can help yourself to the ear- and eye-protection gear hanging on the wall inside the range room. After paying, the rangemaster will bring you into the range room and make sure you know how to use your gun(s) and answer any questions you may have. This was nice, because they don't assume you're a gun expert; one of the guns we brought was borrowed and I didn't know it had two safety switches. My teens had a great time - it was their first time live-fire shooting, though I had a friend train them awhile ago with dummy guns as well as real ones with dummy ammo. While you're in Lebanon, walk up & down Main Street - it really is a nice town with several small shops as well as some large ones.
