merced fruit barn

After driving from Yosemite or from the west you will need a rest stop. Try the Merced Fruit Barn on Hwy. 140 just outside of Merced. Gifts galore and make to order sandwiches too!

I thought this would be great because of the advertising and how it looked but it turned out to be the commercial stop for the busses and definitely not representative of the selections of fruit and veggies from the Central Valley. You would do better stopping at the fruit stand on the way to Gilroy and Modesto.

We spent several afternoons here visiting the animals and eating ice cream. Nice grass area with shade trees and picnic tables. Animals were well taken care of and there was no strong odors. Lunch and bakery items also available here. Cute shopping area too.

You can't beat their presentation. Merced Fruit Barn has mastered how to receive travelers and provide an abundant and wide selection. Super tidy, greeted with a smile, immaculate wash rooms in the back, manicured grounds, green grass turf with picnic tables and shade . There are farm pets of every kind out back. Exotic Birds in front. OUTSTANDING.

Touristy rest stop for the many tourist buses that are heading up to Yosemite. Lots of fun things to eat and trinkets to buy, lots of picnic tables and a place for kids to play a bit. Prices are higher than local as you might expect.

This place was so cute! It is kept very clean, has tons of picnic tables, and a petting zoo for the kids. It has all kinds of country and farm decorations and housewares, pictures and signs. We came for the day with my family, on our way to Yosemite and got ice cream, fresh cherries, melon salad, deli sandwiches, pistachios and some other yummy treats to take on our way to the Park! I highly recommend that you stop if you are traveling through Merced
