Even though this tasting room is tucked away under a building and off of Main street, it's one of the busiest. They are consistent with their Zinfandel but they have one called "Sewell", named after the owner. EXCELLENT full bodied red. Tasty with a great finish. Start with Hatcher first to set the benchmark high.

We've enjoyed hatcher wines in the past. We even went to a Yosemite Vintner's Holiday so that we could support their wines! Now we came back to add more bottles to the wine cellar. It's a little hard to find, just walk down Main Street and take the stairs to the lower, back area. Cozy tasting room.

My date and I were in Murphy's for few days and we happened upon Hatcher. I love Red Wines and my date enjoys Ice Wines and Ports. While the man offering samples resembled the Soup Nazi's brother (Wine Nazi) the wines were amazing. Deep full flavors. I left with a Malbec and my date with Ice Wine. It was actually pretty amusing to watch this fella work. With all of the engaging people trying to push wine everywhere else it was kind of fun to get a little push back in this instance.I'd try the wine because it's well worth going in to enjoy the fantastic flavors.

We spend a fair amount of time in Big Trees and had been frequenting the Murphy's wineries, but when we discovered Hatcher, it was like all other wine was just blown away. We love big reds, and there is just something special with the Hatcher wine that I can't adequately describe here, but it's a unique taste and depth. Frankly I have no idea why the finest steak establishments in the country would not be serving Hatcher wines front and center. Needless to say, we are now wine club members, and every single time we go to pick up a shipment, we have a taste and end up purchasing even more wines. Sewell and Matt do a wonderful job, this is low key, the tasting room is in a nice cool, very tastefully decorated "cellar" (where well behaved dogs are welcome too!) and it's always treat going to taste the latest & greatest. We were talking with Sewell a couple of weeks back when we dropped by, and his comment was that he doesn't sell the wine because it sells itself; I could not agree more. We also attend the wine club parties, which are excellent. I highly recommend Hatcher wines, I honestly don't think you will find better if you're a red fan. The town of Murphy's is such a great little place to spend some time as well. Totally worth the visit - just bring a designated driver :)

Hatcher wines were highly recommended by another vineyard, so eight of us stopped by enroute to dinner to buy a couple of bottles to drink with our meal in the Murphys Hotel. It was the best tasting we encountered the entire week. One of the owners was present and gave us a 45 minute detailed explaination of his wines along with the samples. He even let us try a meritage not usually available, after a little encouragement. Needless to say, we enjoyed it so much that we made his day by purchasing 2 cases between us. In Murphys, you only pay a very reasonable corkage fee in restaurants when bringing in locally purchased/produced wine, so it's a wonderful way to enjoy regional wines that are generally not available.

We stopped in to the Hatcher Winery tasting room in Murphys to pick up a shipment. While there, we tasted several of their wines; didn't find one we didn't like. Since we are not generally white/rose drinkers, the young lady running the place for the afternoon gladly let us exchange for wines we wanted.

Try the Cinsault Rose and the Alicante Buchette(sp?). Good discounts if you join wine club. Tasting room is a little hard to find but worth it.

we sat down to enjoy a glassof wine on the paito before heading to a concert at Ironstone. even thougth they were out of my favioret wine my second choice was great as well.

Context: we were on our way to a hatcher dinner event and decided to visit the tasting room in Murphy's where two of us did the tasting. It is free for wine club members and five dollars otherwise.Atmosphere: the tasting room is in this back basement room that is kind of difficult to locate. From main street you have to look down the little alleyways for the hatcher sign. It's across the street from grounds. It is very small inside so only about ten people can taste comfortably and even then it's quite loud. There is a long granite bar.Service: the servers were quite friendly if not deeply knowledgable.Wine: the wines are good, solid choices and for the price, mostly around $20, a good buy. They tend to have a similar spicy profile, as if all had a Zinfandel background, but there are exceptions like a lovely, soft petit verdot. The spicy wines are full flavored and fruit forward. Whites are also fruit forward but not sweet.  They can make up to 50 or so wines so there is a wide selection. The tasting room offers about seven to taste.  We especially like the viognier, the 08 merlot, the reserve Cabernet 08 and the estate zin 08.

Visited here during a busy Labor Day Weekend and truly enjoyed the ambiance of the wine cellar and most of the wines (mostly red) served. All of the wines tasted (including whites) were of high quality and pleasant to drink. While the service was attentive and efficient, the male server was rather abrupt and seemed to be more interested in hurrying the tastings and subsequent sales than in providing true "service to customers".

Hatcher Winery makes a multitude of varietals; all finely crafted. The mine like atmosphere of the tasting room provides the perfect ambiance for their fine craft wines.

Wonderful wines, but they are now charging for pours. This is very understandable now a days, but the pour (even after pouring fee) is not even even enough to a decent taste of the wines poured!!! Not the Hatcher experience we once had!

Loved the tasting room. The staff were very attentive, despite us being there the same time as a bachelorette party. We are serious red wine drinkers and their wines were AMAZING!. We ended up liking them so much, we bought bottles that they didn't even offer at the tasting (and when we finally drank them, loved them too and wished we had bought more). If you love red wine, you'll love Hatcher.

The setting is a cave, and it has the ambiance of gold mining Murphy's rough and ready..The wine is excellent, and the servers are fun and very proud, which makes us proud to be in the wine club and brag.

We have been to this tasting room 5 or 6 times and I get excited every time we are going back. We have been to every tasting room in Murphys (as of Nov 2011 that is, it seems there's a new one every month or so) and this is one of if not the best. The room is down stairs in a rustic cellar setting, the pourers have always been fun and non pretentious, and the wine has always been incredible. When you go be sure to try the Quinn the Eskimo desert wine - one of the best I've ever had. I think they may have started charing 3 to 5 $ to taste, but its waived with a purchase.
