The unique thing about this winery is the blend of Mexican and American culture in the entire wine experience. There is a small tequilla museum to the left as you enter -- a homage to the heritage of the family from the small town of Paracuaro in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. The tasting room is filled with western themed decor, including saddles and horse-shoes. The Borjón family caters to the cowboy (cowgirl) with the use of "reposado" to all of their wines. So no matter what the wine you drink (sangiovese, zinfandel, primitivo or barbera), they are all called Reposado, as part of the Mexican tequilla heritage. The logo for Borjón Winery is a black cowboy, created as an inverse image or silhouette of a photograph of Isy's father, Jesus Borjón Jr. This is the first time we tried a "Bull Rider" wine, dispensed through a Corvain -- and it was defintely worth it. We purchased the Tempranillo Los Portales, which had a very complex structure and great flavor! The wines are a bit pricey, and this one of the few tasting rooms in Amador that charges a higher tasting fee ($15), even though it is waived if you buy wine.

This place has become one of our favorites over the last few years. They have a great tasting room, wonderful staff and amazing wines. Get there early! This winery is popular and can fill up in the afternoon. We generally go up on Friday and have the place relatively to ourselves! This year's 2012 Xinfandel (that's not a spelling mistake) is a must try!

If you love luscious reds, you’ve found your new favorite place to visit! Borjón Winery (pronounced bor-hown’) lies at the north end of the Shenandoah Valley where the foothills start their abrupt climb. Everything about the winery and tasting room speaks to the family’s Mexican-American heritage and continuing influences on its wines. Don’t miss the tequila exhibit in a corner of the tasting room. Many of the wines’ names are derived from some of the same branding usually reserved for that spicy drink.Best known for their Zinfandels and Barberas, Borjón treats these two favorite grapes of Amador County with care. Attention is paid to the unique characteristics of the grapes from each location, either estate grown or locally sourced. The vines are primarily head-pruned, which is said to add to the intense flavor profiles of the final wines. A favorite in our tasting group was the Zinfandel Reposado, as well as the Barbera. Other varietals are produced in small case runs. In total, annual production is about 3000 cases, though that is growing steadily.

Top notch red wines at reasonable prices. Very friendly staff and lots of great red wine under $30! Do not miss this winery.

This is a newer winery, but they have it going! Love their Barbera.

We have driven by here many times and finally stopped in. The man serving was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. More to the point, the wine was excellent, if just a little expensive. We will definitely go back.

Wine is always better when you feel like the people that work there really love what they do. Wines with a Spanish flair. They taste 2 vintages of there wines so you can really get a feel for the differences. Los Portales is a fabulous addition (released Oct '10). I can't wait to tey some of the wine & salsa pairings they are doing this summer. My husband can't wait for tequila tastings. We have taken different out of town visitors and they always live up to my expectations. Places like this are why I love wine tasting (& buying) in Amador county.
