This center had a very comprehensive collection of historical artifacts about Medora. A lot of photographs of Teddy Roosevelt time in Medora.
Small museum but it is well worth it just to be able to tour the cabin that Theodore Roosevelt had built and used during his time in North Dakota. Highly recommend a visit here.
The visitor center we went to was run by the national parks service. They had a film which was informative about Teddy Roosevelt and his time in the area. There is a reproduction (restoration?) of his cabin that is in the back of the center (free).
We arrived in Medora and went right to the Visitor center to get information on lodging. The ladies in there were very helpful. They phoned a couple of different places to see if there was vacancy and how much it would be. We found a place to stay because of them.
The history of the building is interesting enough but the items inside are also interesting. Huge gun collection as well. The upstairs is set up like the old courtroom. The ladies that were working today were very helpful with answering our questions about the area as well.
We have visited Medora every year for the past 15 years. We will be returning this year, but this web site is very user UNFRIENDLY to try to get dates for the upcoming events this summer. We are tring to find out the dates for the annual car show this summer, but find it impossible to find a schedule of upcomming events.
We had a great time talking to the park rangers here at the visitor center. The park rangers are well educated about the park geology and the history. They are also very friendly. They also had a very informational museum and big trunk of petrified wood for show here.
While visiting Dickinson ND and the Badlands, I stopped off at the Medora Visitor Center and walked the village. I gues it was a perfect day because the weather was beautiful in September. Although there did not seem to be much going on or crowds, I enjoyed my visit. People were engaging and the laid-back atmosphere appealed to me.I will definately return and pass on my experience in this wonderful village and the great state of North Dakota.
highly recommend the pitch fork fondue! food is great very friendly, beautiful view! we come here every year, horse back riding is great, lots of little shops, ice cream shops, really peaceful, the park is a beautiful drive, haven't seen the musical sorry to say, but heard it's nice!
We enjoyed the film about the park and all the work that Roosevelt did to preserve this and other natural areas. It was a great introduction to the area.
We had a wonderful weekend visiting Medore N.D. Walking thru this historical village gave us a taste of small town life.
We had a limited amount of time to see the Visitor Center. We watched the film and got a map. I reccommend seeing the film about the history of the park.
The visitor center is just inside the gates to TRNP. They had a small museum, a short film on the area, and the opportunity to explore the Maltese Cross cabin, once Theodore Roosevelt's home, with a Park Ranger guide. Interesting!
On our tour of Roosevelts Cabin the National Park Tour Guide was amazing. It was a young lady on Wed June 13th. She gave such an wonderful informative tour, I would go back again just to hear her. There is so much history there and just loved the area, so beautiful there in the park with the buffalo, wild horses and prairie dogs. Such a wonderful resource that Mr Roosevelt set aside for all to enjoy, will certainly return and recommend this Park.
This was a well staffed place. The book store was great and we got to get lots of information for this summer
