went for a week of camping with my daughter and here family. Well kept campground along side the recreation area, showers and toilets maintained. Happy to see lots of recycling areas. Plenty of shops and restaurants around. Beautiful beach area, cons: water was very cold though, streets were hard to cross as high traffic area, long wait to check in to the grounds
Hiking, opportunities for fishing, biking, rafting, kayaking, and horse-back riding on future visits! Many good hiking maps and books available.
Hi readers! After traveling to almost every State in the Nation, I have to admit, Washington has it all...well, at least in the summer, which is the only time I've been there. I was visiting friends in Seattle, and ended up at Lake Chelan. The drive was 3 hours of magical and spectacular sights. I come from the Desert of Scottsdale AZ, so I know Mountains, but the Mountains from Seattle to Lake Chelan make ours here in AZ look like a cartoon. These mountains on this drive are so HIGH and GREEN it is hard to keep your eyes on the road. It is just absolutely mesmerizing. The temperature goes from 40 degrees in Seattle and went up to almost 90 degrees by the time we arrived at Lake Chelan. And it was DRY! Who knew? Dry heat is NOT a word I would think anyone would use describing Washington. The lake is serene of course but the surrounding area is like a story book of quaint homes, boats just sitting still in the water as though they are posing for a Painting to be made. There are plenty of fun, down to earth, hotels surrounding the lakeside that have BBQ's in the grassy areas facing the lake. There is plenty of entertainment for the kids such as fun slides going into the lake, swimming poos and more. If I still had children to raise this would be the best spot of a family vacation when residing in the Washington.
The town of Chelan has really grown. It's crown jewel is the beautiful crystal clear water of Lake Chelan. The area is very interesting. There are so many changing views traveling through the area. We will visit again.
We booked our trip the evening before. There was a lot of smoke in the air from nearby fires and we were concerned about it blocking our view of the mountains. The next morning the wind had blown the smoke away and we had a lovley day for our cruise up the lake. The trip is about four hours up and four hours back with about 90 minutes in Stehekin at the end of the lake. The first two hours up and the last two hours down are not particularly interesting, but the rest of the trip was wonderful. The only wild life we saw was a herd of bighorn sheep, but the mountains were spectacular. The deeper you go into the mountains the better it gets. In Stehekin we took a short tour to Rainbow Falls. The trip was worth the $8 cost. On the return from the falls the bus stopped at a bakery where we were able to purchase a really great cinnamon roll.
We camp here every July and keep coming back for the weather and the scenery. You can't go wrong here in the summertime.
Beautiful location right off Lake Chelan. We made a reservation for campsite #69. Unfortunately, there's not someone manning the campsites after 5pm so when we rolled in at 6pm another group was in our spot. They were nice and moved to another site but I could see this being a big issue on a busy weekend. #69 is in a great location away from the crowded RV's and next to a creek. The bathrooms were not very clean and if you're planning on taking shower, it costs 50 cents for a cold three minute shower. We took the boat to Stehekin the next day from Field's Point Landing just a few miles down the road so the park provided easy access.
This last weekend 4 wonderful families came together to experience Lake Chelan for our first time. We luckily were able to reserve G1 camp site at the very last minute. From the looks of the calendar that is a very rare to happen. It was 138.06 for two nights and when it was split between the families is hands down the greatest deal around. We ended up having the best view in the camp ground of the lake, and the area was a very large grass area. It is completely separate from the rest of the camp ground so we were not bothered what so ever. After this last weekend we will be going back for years to come... But, we do realize this time that we need to reserve G1 a year in advance. Oh and if you go some how obtain a boat it makes the experience even more amazing. No one in our group owns a boat so we rented on from in town and drove it back to the camp ground. We all had the time of our lives!
My family and I were directed to this campground after we drove up to Pearrygin to find out it was completly flooded and had to look for another campground for our vacation. We have a 35 foot travel trailer and were sent to 25 Mile creek as it was the only campground that had openings. Well, we now know why there was noone there when we pulled in. YOU CANNOT FIT A 35 FOOT TRAVEL TRAILER IN THE ITTY BITTY SPOTS! We were so mad! So we had to head back to Wenatchee Confluence state park where we had originally spent a week at prior. Mind you while this all happened our transmission blew a seal and we were leaking tranny fluid. So I recommend do not camp here if you have a trailer bigger than 20 feet. They are very small sites and VERY close together.
Our family group of two couple, two kids (12 and 15) and one senior (81) decided we needed to see more of the Northwest on our way to British Columbia. My Dad really wanted to do some backpacking, but his age tends to limit high altitude trails. We took the ferry from Chelan to Stehekin (we got on in Chelan, you can get on at 25-mile for same price - saves boat time), backpacked 3.5 miles to Rainbow Falls and then one more to a campground the first night. 5 miles to another campground for two nights and then had hiking access into a beautiful canyon with full rivers, waterfalls and wildflowers. Everything my Dad wanted without high elevations and long distances. Campgrounds are limited to just a few groups at a time, have bear boxes, picnic tables and fire rings. Spent two more days driving Highway 20 through the park - well worth it. Nice campgrounds here too. Junior Ranger program at visitor center is better than average. High Snow year. Higher trails still covered end of July. Very full, frigid rivers.
REMEMBER: Most Washington Parks require a reservation! Call Ahead! We didn't and this is what happened! This park is cluttered and disarrayed! Want to meet your neighbor? Just stick your head out your rv kitchen window into their rv kitchen window! Got stuck in the lower part of park. Ask for upper level. bigger spaces. We got the LAST rv space and it had no view of lake. The kids running the store were more into summer activities than attending to business. As soon as the father left, they closed the store midday and went "on the prowel for *****! Another drawback was being stuck the second day by being surrounded by yet another family reunion spread on both sides, kids and dogs with no supervision or leash and cars, cars, cars and boats, boats, boats. Total Okieville! If your camping in summer to get away, avoid this park!
This lake and the surroundings are very beautiful. Get there by mid morning and you'll end up spending the rest of the day. can go for a quite sit under the trees or jet skiing , boating.
