We recently happened upon this small treasure tucked along the northern Washington coast outside Sequim, Washington. For a tiny park, it was well-used by picnickers, dog-walkers and beachcombers on the day we visited. Not far from the much-heralded Dungeness Spit, Marlyn Nelson Park has restrooms, plenty of parking, picnic benches and fire pits, a boat launch and a rocky shoreline perfect for treasure hunting. It was quiet with a big view of the water and we were happy to watch a large outbound container ship move across the horizon while shore birds came and went, looking for handouts from the picnic tables. A sign at the entrance marks this as part of the Olympic Loop of The Great Washington State Birding Trail, part of the Audubon Society effort to make bird watching our native species a fun thing (bring your binoculars and add a few flyers to your Life List!). Peaceful, that was the vibe, and had the sky not threatened a serious downpour, we would have followed the trail up past the picnic area to get a better look.

Stopped by here and met the female owner in the shop. We bought several items of lavender source and then took multiple photos. It was nice that they were open unti 5 p.m. when others closed earlier.

They give a top notch talk on Lavender, how to harvest, how to extract, how to use Lavender in foods. They really know their stuff! Their Lavender Gardens are BEAUTIFUL!!

This place was very nice, lots of people. Lovely fields. Had a bit more than the other lavender farms we toured.

Mike and Sue have a really sweet farm on the way to the Port Williams boat launch. It's a bit out of the way, but worth the visit. And their wonderful golden retriever Trevor is a wonderful "greeter". They distill their lavender - not everyone does - and it's exquisite. Love stopping in to the gift shop and have Sue recognize me as "having been there before"...the joy of Sequim!
