This is a nice state beach. I didn't camp there as I live within an hour of it. I like looking for new places to walk or hike. I got a hold of a map Guide to Walks and Trails of Gray Harbor County. It has 32 hikes all around grays harbor. This beach was hike #19. There is a few different options for hiking at this State beach. Of course the first choice is to just walk along the beach. But there is also a dune trail which runs parallel with the beach. This trail has various access points which you can take at any time to got down to the beach. If you continue on the dune trail. It is a little less than a mile from Schafer Rd parking area to the end of the dune trail where you can turn around and go back the way you came or continue following the path as it turns and goes into the forest area which will either take you to the parking area near Bongo Ave or back around in a loop to where you came from. There are several trails off from the "beach trail" but I continued keeping to the left each time or following the wood signs post which said "beach trail" each time. I ended up back at Schafer Rd (near the campgrounds) and my total distance was just about 2 mile. There is not much in the general area for activities. Westport is in one direction and Grayland is in the other. In early November there weren't many campers, walkers or hikers around so it was the perfect place for peace and solitude. On the Dunes Trail there are benches along the way to sit on and just watch and listen to the sound of the waves. Today for me walking, taking in the fresh air and listening to the sound of crashing waves. Just what the doctor ordered!
The park itself is in a great location, it's the campsites that are less than desirable. We are rv campers and the rv sites are super close together without any privacy. If you want to go to the beach you have to cross a busy highway.
watch the sun go down from the observation deck and catch the pelicans fly by. Wear a jacket, it got cool quick and it was July
This is a beautiful camping ground state park on the very far west coast of Washington State. The beach is across the highway if you are tent camping, but only about a 10 minute walk through the forest and dunes. The beach is beautiful and the site is close to Westport which was having a nice artists market when we got there. HOWEVER, as of this year there is no longer a Grocery store in Westport so the closest one of any substance is in Aberdeen or there is a tiny mom and pop store about 15 miles south of the campsite.
We do an annual family tent camping trip and this was our first visit to Twin Harbors Beach State Park. A beautiful park, with an easy trail walk to a beautiful Pacific Ocean beach. The sites were wooded and except for the separate RV area, most were quite nicely separated from neighboring sites. Hot showers for a small fee, nice and helpful rangers. Gas station/general store within walking distance. Nights were chilly and early mornings tended to be foggy so warmer gear was much appreciated at those times. We liked this state park a lot!
We booked a site here last minute and were only able to reserve a spot on the east side of the park. I am glad we did! The sites were wooded and private contrasted with the sites closer to the ocean which are all out in the open and right on top of each other. Supposedly in the wetter months there is an issue with drainage for many of the sites on the east side but in mid July it was just fine. I am glad we brought bug repellant, the natural stuff worked fine. There is only one small grocery store in Grayland so be prepared. They had meat, dairy and produce along with the best price for wood and kindling. The best site in my opinion was 147. 148 was the second best. After those two I would pick 127. The lighthouse tour was fun and there are many points in Grayland where you can drive out onto the beach. The trail to the beach from the campground is quick. A 5 minute stroll through a pretty forest and dunes from the east sites.
Check out the weather before coming out here as we had lots of marine fog which made it too cold to get into the water. Some partiers from the the night before left their empty beer cans behind which wasn't too nice too see. Pick up your trash. Saw tire tracks on beach but all the roads I saw to the beach were closed.
Nicely maintained camping park with good access to the ocean beaches. Very popular during the summer so make reservations. Two main camping areas, the main being a bit cramped for my liking and not much privacy between sites. Looked up the individual sites on-line before reserving and selected site 299 in the smaller west side camp area. Large enough for several tents and very private with close access to water and restrooms, would have been our idea of perfect if not for the nearby highway noise. Don't forget to bring mosquito repellant!
First, keep in mind this is not the pace to go on a weekend if you are after peace and solitude, this place gets busy, especially on summer weekends. The positive is you really are close to the beach and ocean. We were initially looking for a campsite right next to the beach, spots numbered in the 200's. Thank goodness these were all reserved. We were going with two other couples and were looking for 3 spots together. The campground numbered in the 200's did not look enjoyable. Packed with people and little to no privacy between campsites. I mean my anxiety meter reached high levels and I am only in my 40's. Twin Harbors has a second campground numbered in the 100's. Day and night difference! Although you are packed in and many are not as private as others there are plenty that provide nice privacy once your camp is set up. We were in spots 107, 109 and 111. Great spots, 109 and 111 have great shade but on the downside are right next to a two lane highway that can get loud. Sleeping at night it quiets down nicely but starting early in the morning chances are you will awake to the sound of cars and crows, even after many beer the night before. The Mosquitos are also pretty aggressive. Bring your Burt's bug spray. The walk to the beach is simple and maybe 5 to 8 minutes. You cross the highway in marked crosswalks and every time if there were cars they would stop for us. Nice trail through the forest, through the nice grass dunes onto a great beach and beautiful ocean. There are also a couple of access roads where you can drive on the beach. The State Park is kept nice and all the Rangers and employees we encountered were friendly. The campsites appear to be cleaned after each use and are nice. There are bathrooms that are kept moderately clean and toilet paper provided. :-) There are showers available but tokens are required. You can purchase them from the Ranger station. The stars at night were amazing and it's great to be able to sit around an open fire. All in all Twin Harbors was a fine place and kid friendly.
We spent a night here with friends and we reserved both yurts. I had never stayed in a yurt before and it was fun. The 2 yurts are next to each other and close to the bathrooms/shower. Both yurts were very clean and honestly, they smelled like spic & span, so we had to air them out a bit. This didn't bother us, we were happy they were clean! We were less than a 10 minute walk to the ocean. The beach was very pretty. Even though it was July, it was cool and very windy. We were able to have a fire at our campsites which was really nice and were able to buy some firewood at the check-in station. The yurts have electricity and 1 overhead light inside. They also have heaters. Even in July we had the heater on all night and it was very toasty and warm inside. The yurts don't come with bedding so you need to bring your own blankets and pillows. This was a really fun experience and our kids had a great time running around.
We sat in our car and watched the waves and fishermen. It was nice and beautiful. The sun was setting behind a storm, just a pleasant park.
Yes, we went to the coast in the winter. The only people out there were a few surfers. It was perfect. Such a great spot.
Camped here in late September. Camp sites are spaced far enough apart to offer a little privacy. Facilities are well maintained and clean. Short walk to the gorgeous sandy beach.
Camp spots are very nice and most are private, beach is beautiful! Great place for beach combing and driving on the beach!!!
Not crowded, great place to find agates, shells, sand dollars, etc.Great place to walk, run or just play in the sand or in the surf.
