santee welcome center

As we drove on I - 95 South from NJ and heading to FL, we spotted an old empty bridge parallel to the new bridge we were on. There was a Welcome Center exit, and we got off to see if we could take a bike ride on the old bridge. In typical friendly South Carolina style, the travel guide explained that we could take our bikes thru the unlocked gate at the back of the Visitor Center property and bike right from where we had parked. It was fun to ride across the old bridge....fresh air, beautiful views...just the two of us. When we put our bikes back on the car, a man approached me and said, "I just stopped to see if I could go on that old bridge" so I said "yes" and I pointed him to the open gate. He actually wanted to drive up the the bridge, so I told him to just take exit 99 and make a right. If you don't travel with bikes, this would be an equally excellent walk. It was a wonderful way to take a break. When we returned from our refreshing ride, the lovely SC travel guide, gave us a good suggestion for lunch in Santee.
