Married into a family from this area. Seems the locals really like their courthouse tree. It is certainly something you don't see everywhere, but don't expect a towering redwood or anything. The tree is pretty small -- but it is still a tree growing off of the top of a clock tower. Worth a detour off the Interstate if you are driving through and need to take a break.

My dad brought me by the courthouse on a roadtrip when I was 13. I was amazed by the sight of a tree growing in the tower of the courthouse back then and I'm still amazed by it today. An unusual sight worth visiting Greensburg for.

If you are drivin through Greensburg, IN it is worth a quick stop to see this tree growing ou of the steeple on top of the court house. While visiting there are many local restaurants on the Square worth trying. A nice calm place to eat at is Mayasari just up for the square on the northest side. Anothr fun place to grab a meal if the Carriage House on the Square Smoke House. Grat place to get sandwiches of pulled pork.

I only go their to pay my property taxes,It has been up dated ,but the tree in the tower is still their. Their use to be big old trees around the square, but the birds really made a mess on the walks,so they cut the trees down ,and planted smaller ones.

It is suprises and interesting to see the old tree in the top the tower. It is beautiful. I didn't have much time to visit there. Therefore, I didn't ask to see if we could go up there. Only take some pictures and left.

I've known about the courthouse tree since I was a young boy. My father grew up in the Greensburg area so I've heard all about it. My favorite story is when someone asks how does the tree live so high up on the roof of the tower on the courthouse, someone will tell them how the tree is fed from the springs from the courthouse clock.

This is a fun place to stop & streach your legs. Walk around the square & view the tree from all angles. Stop at the Carriage in the Square Smokehouse food truck across the street for some great smokey cheesy grits, the pork sandwich is pretty good too.

It is so awesome to see a tree growing out of the top of a courthouse. It is defiantly something to see. We also enjoy eating at Storys restaurant which is right across the street, they have great home made food and pies, and the service is awesome. A must try when checking out the tree coming out of the courthouse.

I have traveled to Greensburg many times for many years. I used to think it was cute and certainly a novelity. Now I just think they should cut the tree down and repair their roof!

It's true and it's real. I had heard of this oddity and we had to see it for ourselves. The top of a courthouse has no dirt , so how did it happen? They believe a bird may have carried a seed to the top of the courthouse in the late 1800 hundreds. No dirt but a lot of dust built up, lo and behold a tree begins to grow. Over the years it grew well and tall enough that some of the towns people began to take care of the tree. Eventually they brought in tree experts to decipher what kind of tree it might be. After much debate the most accepted analysis is a Large Tooth Aspen. This is not a major attraction but it's only 55 miles southeast of Indy and you might want check out this quirky experience. Actually, Greensburg is a very nice city and their are a few other things to do. The people of Greensburg are very nice as well and would be more than happy to talk to you about this unusual tree.
