Really terrific place, need to see all what they have done and are doing for this place. The updating these past years have been great ! Unique animals for all to learn about ! Hidden treasure if you have not been there yet!
I'm glad there wasn't an admission fee to get into this zoo because there is not very much to see. Some parts of the zoo have been renovated but it still needs a lot of work. A few animals have died recently. There wasn't a lot to look at.
This is a small zoo without many animals. The accommodations for the animals were pretty poor as well, in my opinion. Most of the animals were in solitude and were pacing back and forth, almost as if they were going crazy. I felt sorry for them, almost hoping that this place either grows and adds more animals or just shuts down so that these animals can move on to a better place and can enjoy the company of their same species. In the future, I'll go to another town to take my kid to the zoo or just not go at all.
Nice Free Zoo. Undergoing renovations to become AZA certified. Schedule about 2 hours. Located in City Park which also has shelter houses, picnic tables, and lots of play equipment. Wetlands Waterpark & Swimming Pool is also in City Park.
My daughter played soccer at Barton and I visited here a few times. We loved coming to the zoo! They have great animals to see and beautiful parks to picnic in. My daughter came to the zoo weekly just to relax! Very nice place, very well kept, and you cant beat the price!
Friendly staff, The zoo is always adding new things. Playgrounds outside for children and the water park, Great location for a family day.
I must compliment Great Bend for all the zoo improvements the last few years. Animal living conditions are improved, the grounds look good, lots of shade and friendly staff make this a great place to visit. I highly recommend the Christmas Light display during the holiday season. Good job neighbors!
My husband was washing our car and I was walking our dog-AND I noticed a lion not far from the sidewalk! We found this fun zoo,(free, too) and have been back several times. There is also a water-park and skate-park.There are lots of tree and there used to be alligators, too. The alligators got sick and died. I hope they can get more. They used to keep them in a hanger at the airport in the winter time. They have a new entrance and things for the kids to do there.
We stayed in town for business and thought that on the way out the zoo which was free would be nice stop. We went north of town and stopped in. It starts with a very loud red bird and a rascally rabbit. We saw bears and different big cats. The Tiger was scary. We heard lions but didn't get to see them roar because we were attacked by a giant wandering goose. Overall for a small zoo that is free. It looked very well taken care of and worth a stop by! We had a family of two and our baby.
We were shocked to see the variety of animals this little zoo has on display for such a small town! We might have chosen a bad time to go, but it was disappointing that the trail to walk around and view the exhibits was piled with snow and no one scooped it. If you're going to stay open during snowy months, a little upkeep should be expected. However, it was a great free way to spend a day and our 7 month old son loved the tigers and ducks the most!
Great Bend has a cute little zoo that has nice exhibits and a nice to place to spend some time. A long standing institution in town.
Impressed with the variety of animals considering small town... free admission is plus.
