High and fine literature is wine, and mine is only water; but everybody likes water.- Mark Twain 1887Our family (4 adults and 3 kids) visited Mark Twain Cave on a rainy summer day. Finding a wait time we panned for gold, shopped a bit, and visited the winery. What we loved was the MARK TWAIN wine...by our local West Winery. Just having the bottle sitting on our wine shelf and giving it as gifts to former Northeast Missourians is fun!

This winery is a wonderful place to chill out. They have a large TV with numerous small tables and chairs in the area, and they allow you to bring in your own food to eat if you want. Very generous of them, considering that they sell food there (cheeses and crackers, at least). The wine tasting bar is a bit small, at least when I was there, but the wine steward knew his wines that were offered there. Nice selection of wine related items for sale, also. We bought 2 bottles of wine when we were there, one of them for a gift. Did not try the cave-aged cheese, but wish we could have!

We really enjoyed the winery. The lady that was working was very helpful and knowledgeable about the wines.

I just love this winery! We go there every chance we get. Workers are very friendly and are full of good information. Not to mention the wines are excellent. If you like a sweet wine, make sure you taste The Innocent Broad. It is excellent and made right there. Also, make sure you try the cave aged cheese.

Located just across the street from Mark Twain Cave this establishment is new, clean and the woman working the day we visited (Sunday morning in late January)was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We spent a little time tasting wines and looking over the place including the wine making equipment. Now if you are a wine tasting expert (we most definitely are not) this place may not live up to lofty standards however it is a pleasant way to spend an hour or two and taste some pretty good wines. We found a couple we like and bought some bottles to take home which something we would normally not do. We enjoyed the time we spent there and would recommend it to anyone.

I was in town for work & can never resist trying a new winery. I was the first customer of the day (off season), and they had one employee working (Nick). He was very friendly and chatty and knowledgeable about the wines they had. I stayed for about an hour trying different wines and chatting. Found several that I liked! It's probably "typical" for many of the Missouri wineries-- a few dry reds (Nortons) and a lot of sweet wines, since they're popular in the area. I took home a bottle of the Mark Twain reserve (off-dry red) and the Traminette (semi-sweet white). Prices were reasonable for Missouri wines. I would recommend to others if they are in the area.

Not much to say really. It was a Sunday. One staff on hand, he was overly busy. The place was dirty not clean at all. Outside could have used some touch up. Place has potential but not much in comparison to other wineries.

While possibly a good way to wait for your cave tours to start, I wouldn't recommend the winery as a highlight to your trip. The wines leave a lot to be desired. Some were worse than others, but finding a wine to even buy a glass of was difficult. Not your typical wine tasting experience.Probably good for the area, but if you have been wine tasting before in any area with better wines (don't even try and compare to Napa), keep your expectations in check.

We visited here with family and had a great time! It was not busy at all so we had the wine tasting to ourselves!!!! The lady who helped us was very nice and took her time. The building is nice and big and set up for you to visit/drink some wine with family/friends. You can also catch a trip to the cave or camp or shop in downtown Hannibal. Easy to get to and prices were reasonable!

This winery has comfortable areas to sit with your party including couches. We really enjoyed the free wine tasting that featured some of their wines. If your looking for a friendly and spacious winery you'll love it.
