It's a place to escape for a few hours. Beautiful scenery. Even has picnic tables so you can enjoy a nice meal by the waterfall

Anne and I visited this park assuming only that it had an awesome waterfall and were taken away by the additional services and natural beauty of his park in Eastern Connecticut. We only had 3 hours to hike, so we picked the Orange Trail, which included the waterfall and the "Table Top Vista." The trail we followed was 3.5 miles long and was appropriate for nearly anybody. I had total knee replacement surgery 4 months ago, and that made the last .5 miles down the from the table top vista challenging, but doable non the less, and we could have picked the path we came up on, but where would the fun have been in that?We saw or heard the river the entire time, as well as a view of a river valley that could have kept us captivated us for hours, had we given ourselves more time. In addition to vista's hard to imagine, we saw natural beauty in rock formations, trees and even part of a hill side that was ravaged by fire years before. This park is acceptable and even mandatory if you like hiking, fishing, camping or nature. It even has a riverside picnic area. #ThisIsNewEngland reviewed our trip to the Devil's Hopyard at: http://thisisnewengland.blogspot.com/2014/12/the-devils-hopyard-east-haddam.htmlIf you like nature, this is worth the trip.

hey beautiful, fairly large waterfall, the largest in eastern Connecticut, a short walk from the parking lot, maybe a hundred yards, to a beautiful cascading waterfall, called Chapman falls. continue down the trail, to the covered bridge, and take the hike, through secluded Pines, and along the river, a bit of a strenuous hike, but worthwhile for the adventurous, there is a round trip loop, so the scenery is a constant change, this is one of my favorite spots, in Southeast Connecticut, fairly close to Gillette castle, another gem not to be missed.

This is a beautiful place. You can camp, hike, picnic. It has falls and a river running through it. Nice place to spend the day.

A large park with a variety of trails and scenery. I went in the dead of winter with a fresh snow on the ground and proposed on the vista! Recommend if you enjoy the outdoors and getting away from the noise.

We didn't have a lot of time to explore the park, but what we did see was beautiful. The waterfall was really nice and the overlook was absolutely stunning to look at. It was definitely worth visiting. Great hiking and great scenery.

Devil's Hopyard is one of my favorite parks. If you love waterfalls you will love this park. There are beautiful hiking trails - beware of poison ivy- and the park is CLEAN. I am always disturbed by litter when I am in a state park, this park was very clean. It's very peaceful and not crowded. Make sure you stop in Salem for ice cream too!

After Gillette Castle we decided to hop over to the Devil's Hopyard State Park...amazing! We parked across from the falls and started our hike. Chapman Falls have got to be seen, they are amazing!! We hiked down the left side of the falls down to the rock formation, the Devil's Oven. The trail was easy to follow with many places along the way to admire the Eight Mile River and the pretty scenery. The "Oven" was fun to find and hike up to and with a 1000 acres we only hiked a small portion of it. I can't wait to return!

I initially went to the park to practice photographing a waterfall. About a 1/2 hour into it, I started looking around and found some trails. About 10 steps in and you will find yourself emerged into a beautiful forest with plenty of breath taking views. I couldn't wait to see what was waiting beyond each twist and turn along the path. I was only planning on spending about 1 hour at the park but wound up spending the entire day exploring. Don't be afraid to get off the path along the river. There are a few hidden gems along the way.

Been coming here since I was a little kid. Beautiful waterfall and excellent hiking with a beautiful vista. It can be a little hard to find and if 82 if there is construction on the main road leading in (like the last time we went), it will take you forever to get out. There are always lots of people fishing and bbq'ing and a decent amount of campers although I'd never camp there as you're just in an open field. Definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful Waterfall at Chapman Falls. A bit hard to navigate when first driving through, I saw a sign for the Park but drove awhile for two parking lots, one for picnic then for camping. Go in with an adventurous mindset and willingness to explore. Went back a second time more determined to explore and loved it a lot more.

I brought my children here for the first time and they loved it. Being fans of the great outdoors there is so much to see and do. I love that the children have to create they're own fun and entertain themselves. No TV or games needed. Just like when I was a kid, when it was time to go they begged to stay just 5 more minutes. That is the mark of a great place to take the kids.

Great spot for a hike and picnic. Wooden picnic tables and grills are available set by a babbling brook.

You can walk both at the bottom and above the waterfall. Wear rubber sole shoes if you go climbing on the rocks. You can also hike in the woods nearby.
