I often get lost but never for good. At least not yet! Very peaceful nature trails. Paths are marked and are clear.

Beautifully kept forest & excellent for hiking or walking. Enjoy a picnic, bird watching or even walking your dog. Ultimate stress relief

I was lured by TripAdvisor as I was near this location with my family. Car parking was $0 for residents with stamp, $3 those without and $1000 for anyone else. I'll upload a photo of one such sign. See attached photo. Description from TripAdvisor should reflect visitors aren't welcomed there.

Who would have thought that one of few state forest in the United States run by a town, would be right here in Stratford. Many different hiking trails ranging anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes. Some park benches that overlook a very tranquil pond. There is even a pavilion. The benches and pavilion do need to be stripped and painted, but if that doesn't bother you this is a good place to get away, grab a bit to eat and enjoy some quiet times. Be sure to check out the website for the forest so you can view or print out the trail maps. The old Paugussett Trail use to go through the park in the 30's to 70's, but the construction of Route 8 shortened it. Be sure to visit Roosevelt Forest. That's right, there is forest in Stratford!!!

This Forest has hosted many Boy and Girl Scouts functions throughout the decades for hiking, camping and field trips. In addition, many families )along with their dogs) can take advantage of the many doable trails on this property which culminates to a serene lake alongside the parking lot. It is quirt, peaceful, tranquil and clean. Highly recommended.

Lived all of my 58 years in close proximity to Roosevelt Forest and never knew about it until moving to Oronoque Village which is about a mile away from it. One of the residents told me about it and we went there one evening to check it out. It's "supposedly" for Stratford residents only, but there is no one at the gates to keep any car out. We drove through a residential area to get to it, through a broken gate that said "Park closes at 4" (this was now 6 PM) and parked near their pond. There were nice benches on the edge of the pond and it was relaxing sitting there talking. Another car came with five college age people and they parked and went over to the pavillion near the pond. Then we drove to the other side of Roosevelt Forest and took a small trek on one of their trails. Nice little walk for a first venture into a wonderful setting. Must be awesome in the fall.

The forest is well maintained and several well-marked paths for an afternoon stroll on a nice day. You can access it off route 15 but may have to look closely for the signs.

This little forest has everything the big forests have without the people! This is a gem of a place to go collect your thoughts, see some wild life and reflect on what Stratford could be if you got rid of all the politics!

This is a very relaxing area. Well marked and maintained trails. Babbling brooks and bridges. Take care of it when you visit.

Just your regular forest with few marked trails. There is a small swingset for the kids near the parking area.

Roosevelt Forest has marked hiking trails with some short loops or longer more difficult hikes through woods, hills, and over streams. There is a rustic picnic area next to the dirt parking area and pond. This is a great area for bird watching.
