A great day! Guides Ben and Sarah were engaging, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour. A good tour for those new the activity.
My wife and I took on the adventure of zipping through the trees on a beautiful early November day. Gorgeous scenery with most of the leaves gone and some color still remaining. We were guided by Kevin and Brent through eight zip lines and two rope bridges. Both were excellent instructors and patient guides. Along the way they cracked jokes and showed us how to have fun along the course as we sped along from 25 to 40 mph (!) It could not have been better in my opinion and I think almost any time and weather would be fun if you are dressed appropriately.I took my GoPro and strapped it to my helmet. A plus is that the crew is familiar with GoPros and they even will rent them to you for a modest fee. They helped with camera positioning and pointed out what to look for to get those great shots of the mountains and surrounding nature. This is not an attraction for the squeamish about heights as you go from five feet to almost a hundred feet above ground. The two bridges are a bit hairy as you can see through the bridge to the ground. As far as exertion, there was little in my opinion. Not a physically taxing adventure. A couple of short walks, one lasting 5 minutes at the end to return, and the rest is flying or waiting for others.
I have only zip lined about 3x, but this is "by far" the best one yet. The equipment and course is very well maintained, the course is easy for all ages and the guides are very experienced and make sure you are kept save during the journey. I really liked the equipment they use - It was some of the best I have seen so far and I liked the tiny handle bars that keep you from spinning, which let you line up to brake and land properly. You start out with a fitting of your harness after check-in and then you take an ATV ride up into the hills to start your journey. BTW - I liked that their ATVs set 6 and a very comfortable, so don't worry about getting bounced around. When you arrive at the start, the guides give you a safety briefing and shown how to properly brake and stop. The guides show how your equipment will be attached to the line, but they do all of the hooking up and removals. Then, you do a "bunny run" and demonstrate to the guides that you actually were listening to them. The zip line runs are gradual, so you won't get intimidated at first. The guides tell you when to start braking to stop at the correct time, so be sure to keep your eye on them as you run down the zip line. There is a "chicken-out" run for those that get too scared to do the highest point, which is about the 3rd run.The course ends with about a 30ft repel down a line, with a guide at both the top and bottom. Follow all instructions and you should be fine going down it. I am afraid of heights and I thought it was really cool. After you return to the station to turn in your equipment, they present you with a certificate to prove to your family and friends that you actually did it.Overall, I am glad that we had a chance to experience zip lining with this company. Our guides (Leah and Kevin) were phenomenal and made our journey really fun. We will definitely be back.
We decided to do this for our anniversary and it was well worth it!!! We got a groupon which made it even better, saving $ is always a plus. The guides were great, we had Kevin & Brent. They kept things very fun and relaxed but at the same time we felt that we were in more than capable hands. The zip lines were great!! Make sure you take a moment when zipping to look around and enjoy the beauty of nature. If you're wondering if you shoukd do it, GO!!
I have always wanted to zip line and am so glad to have finally done it - and so close to home. Who knew such a beautiful location offered zip lining so close to Woodbridge VA. My family and I had a BLAST! The guides (Isaiah and Brent) were awesome and calmed any nervousness we had and provided us with the instruction and confidence we needed to enjoy every zip (8 of them!), rope bridge (2 of those) and rapelling. I would recommend to anyone looking for an adventure in the great outdoors to have a 'Zip In The Park'!
Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun adventure. We purchased our passes on Groupon, which was a great deal but I would be willing to pay full price for this canopy tour. The guides were awesome....very helpful, knowledgeable and funny. Made our adventure even more fun.
Zip lining is so much fun, and there is no better place to do it than the Shenandoah River State Park. We have zip lined in many different locations - Whistler, British Columbia, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and Tasmania - so we were not expecting much from this experience. Boy were we wrong! This was great fun, the zips were good, and our guides, Brent and Kevin, made the whole experience awesome. Groups are limited to 9 people so there is very little wait time. Our guides kept us moving, and zipping through the woods with the leaves changing color was beautiful.Zip lining can be for the whole family. Since I am 68 years old, having to walk long distances wearing all of the zip lining gear (this was the case in Tasmania) is a significant problem. This was not a problem on this trip. We took an adventurous ride through the woods to the start of the course. From there we had 8 zips, walked over 2 cool bridges, and thne "rappelled" off the final platform to the ground below. Then it was just a short walk back to the parking lot.If you happen to be going to Skyline Drive, Virginia Canopy Tours is very close to the entrance to the Drive.
This is a zip line facility that opened this year (2014). We bought our tickets on Groupon last year (before it opened). Their building still was not finished so check-in, etc was in the parking lot by their trailer (the shelter nearby was reserved for a party). But they hope to be moving into their building soon. Most times After securing your gear (harness helmet, gloves) they drive you to the starting point on an off-road vehicle. There you train on a low level, short zip line so you know how to handle yourself. Then on to the first Zip line. You have two safety straps that are always hooked to steel cables (even when waiting for your tern). They do take safety seriously. Two guides. One goes first to assist in your landing on the destination tree. Other goes last and is the one who attaches you to the zip line and releases you when the coast is clear. Two air-bridges and I believe it was 8 zip lines (with a short walk after number 4). Then a rappel down from the final platform. In our case, both guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. I do have some issues with heights but in most cases you were not really high and all of the safety features helped with that. For me the worst probably was one air bridge where there were logs between two cables (with two handrail cables) as I was concerned that even with the safety harness it would be difficult to get back up if you missed a step and fell between the steps. But that did not happen and I focused on each step landing squarely on a log. Next air bridge was more of a walkway and I was much more comfortable on it.One young child that was in a family that was grouped with us was somewhat uncertain but after the first ZIP line he was ready for the rest of the lines. No major climbing, The starting points for each set of zip lines was only about 6 steps off the ground. They made good use of the topography to get you higher without climbing. From start at 12:20 it was after 2 when all was over so allow for enough time. Plus they want you there about 20 minutes early. Then you have the rest of the state park to use for the rest of the day (4.00-5.00 admission to get into the park - it is called a parking fee). That is in addition to the cost of the zip line adventure.I was impressed with the construction of this facility (although this is my first zip line). Double cables between trees (coated in some sort of plastic), cables to hook the safety harness to while on the platform on the trees. Even for the small number of steps up they have a safety line attached to you. Weight limit was not for the facility cables/safety features but to prevent the lines from sagging too much under your weight and getting too close to branches, etc.My only suggestion would be to improve the initial training. A short line low to the ground is not the same as the real thing and I did have some problems getting the braking figured out on the real lines.
Had a great time! Guides are wonderful and we had a fabulous time. I recommend it for folks of all ages!
Our families had gotten us a Groupon for a zipline tour for Christmas and we finally used it this past Sunday. It was absolutely amazing! I can't say enough good things about the whole experience. I am extremely terrified of heights, but have made lots of steps in overcoming my fears. I pushed myself through the tour and I am so happy I did. I have a lot of that to thank Becky and Kevin (our instructors) for. They pushed me and encouraged me- as did the rest of my group. Not to mention they were hilarious and made the times when we weren't zipping fun! I have to say that the last line- 90 ft up and over 1000 ft long going 40+ mph was the best line. Highly recommended!!!
Had a great afternoon doing the eight zip lines. Although we didn't know the others in our group of eight, we all got along very well and were supportive of one of our member trying to overcome her fear of heights. It was rewarding to be apart of that.It rained during a significant portion of our adventure, however the trees provided suitable cover and it wasn't a problem. The guides were relaxed, yet professional. They made it a lot of fun. There is a reason I haven't seen a non-five star review yet.
Kevin and Leah were our guides for this zipline tour. We laughed for 2-1/2 hours and had a great time. Safety instructions were awesome. They had everyone do a little practice line so we all knew what to do. The lines were great - fast and fun. We will definitely go back!!
My girls and I really enjoyed the entire tour. Kevin and Leah were very professional and entertaining. Highly recommend this trip. When I heard that there were 8 zip lines, I had no idea that one tour included all 8. It was a blast.
7 family members spent an enjoyable 3 hours at this attraction. We did zip lines, air bridges, and a short repel at the very end. Three ladies in our party were a bit apprehensive and a bit afraid of heights but even they were relaxed and enjoying themselves after the 2nd zip line. The guides were great and really made you feel comfortable. Two more people were added to our party and it was like one big family unit having fun and encouraging each other by the time we were done with ground school. Excellent time and I highly recommend anyone and everyone to go who is over the age and weight limits.
Our zip was for 9am and we had 9 zippers and 2 guides. We were suited up and taken on an awesome trail ride to our zip school. All safety information was explained and then we had a small example zip to test out our new knowledge. It was now time to take a short hike to the beginning platform and from there zip after zip was fantastic. We all felt safe and the guides kept us laughing with jokes the entire time. This is a must do. Ask about the zip and dip!
