My husband and I came a crossed Cape Charles when visiting Virginia Beach, the town and beach was gorgeous! We most definitely will come back!! Our plan is when we retire we are going to move there, we have years to go before retiring and hope Virginia stays the lovers state!! 10 thumbs up!!!
The beach at Cape Charles is easily accessible, clean, right in town. Seems more like something from New England but the water is warmer and surf is calmer.
This is the perfect beach for family and friends to enjoy year round. The water is just deep enough to wade in. If you want to you can go to the deeper end, but if you just want to go in to coooollllllll off, it is perfect. Everyone we have seen there was very friendly, some more friendlier than others. The beach is clean and the new fishing and scenic pier has lots of value. This is our beach to share with you .
We stopped here on the way from Virginia Beach to Chincoteague. Nice quiet be\ach with a wooden walkway along it.
Sweet beach on the Chesapeake bay, lots of room, lots of parking. Beach is clean, there are restrooms, and water is shallow for a long way so great for kids.
Some shops, people and a nice beach area. We went there a few times at different times of the day and the town didn't have much to offer. Lots of rundown properties. You wouldn't be missing much if you drove on past it.
This is a family area which is really nice. But with no one cleaning the beaches, it was nasty in areas. Alot of dead fish, sea weed and even a dead shark on the private beach that we stayed at. We went to the public beach if we wanted to swim. The Brown Dog ice cream is awesome! They have different flavors everyday.
Family friendly - quiet- very peaceful! Great for families because the water is shallow and calm. The people are so friendly in this area.
Nice quiet family beach with a long pier & bay for relaxing walks. Easy access from all of Cape Charles
We were staying near by and some of us used the beach here for swimming. The water is shallow and calm. We came one evening for family pictures and it provided lots of good locations for large and small group picture taking. There is a fun LOVE sculpture make of local items, beach glass, crab traps, kayaks (just the tips), and a tractor tire. Restrooms are available.
Wife and I visited the Cape Charles Beach and found it to be excellent! Great water and sand without the crowd we are used to in Va. Beach. The parking was free and right across the dunes from the beach. Loving Cape Charles!
We went to Va. beach and found it far to busy to enjoy. Cape Charles was perfect. Kids found a "puffer fish", horseshoe crab, hermit crabs, and snails. Kept them entertained for hours. No jellyfish either, as we found on the Chesapeake bay beach. Less people around, in fact quite peaceful. No waves so great for kids. Water ranges from ankle deep to knee deep at low tide to ankle deep and chest deep at high tide. My son claimed he saw a flounder at low tide. There are no stores, shops etc like Va beach except for a quaint town close by for ice cream etc. Incredibly the houses near the beach are rustic (some are refurbished) and not huge mansions as you would expect by the ocean. I highly recommend the beach if you are looking for relaxation and entertainment for young kids. If you want shops, restaurants, big surf, and tons of people around stay away. We plan to return. By the way, the Chesapeake bridge tunnel has a big toll. I think $30 round trip. Only access to the beach if you are driving from Va beach.
Cherrystone Campground in Cape Charles, Virginia was a wonderful experience! If you have children, they will NOT be bored! Two family pools, a lazy river, and an adult pool for those who love to swim, miniature golfing, tennis courts, kayaking, paddle boats, evening entertainment, hiking trails, biking, crabbing, clamming, fishing on any of the 4 wharves, and beautiful sunsets on the Chesapeake Bay, Wonderful staff, beautiful grounds immaculately taken care of. Sadly, we came home on a Saturday night and within just a few days they were hit with an awful tornado. From their website, I learned they opened again on August 1st. Enjoy! My family certainly did!
This is a good beach for families with small children: it faces the Chesapeake Bay, so the waters are calm: no crashing waves and dangerous undertow. I would say it's a great beach for such families, except for one thing: there are no public restrooms or showers, so it's only great if you are staying in town. The beach is clean, the sand is soft, and the sunsets delightful.
A small beach, bur relatively nice. Whether or not you enjoy it will depend upon what you are looking for in a beach. If you are looking for a lot of items to rent (bikes for rides, beach umbrellas) , local bars to get a few drinks, or to walk up and down the beach people watching then this is not your place. If you are looking for a beach that has a decent crowd of people enjoying the water, but not so many that you feel crowded then this will be a nice experience. You can go out quite a long ways from the beach and still be no more than knee deep in water. There are (or were on this day) a large number of snails in the surf, but can be easily navigated. Everyone there seemed to be having fun, if you don't want to swim you can fish off the pier (no license required as the town has purchased a fishing license for the vicinity that automatically covers everyone. Just blocks away are a few boutique stores, restaurants, and coffee shops. I don't know if this is the type of beach that I could spend a week at, but could certainly see going and staying for 2-3 days to enjoy all the aspects of being at the beach without all of the crass commercialism.
