Skipjack Nautical Wares & Marine Gallery is a huge surprise! Entering into the front of the store you see enough to keep you busy looking for an hour - shirts, gifts, furnishings, art ( & much more)….and then, you see the SECOND room, filled with ships in a bottle, antiques, beautiful art and then, wait for it!!! There's a a third room filled with fascinating antiques gathered from ships from years gone by. Fabulous grates for tables (which they will make for you), cool lighting fixtures that can be converted to home use…..flags, oars, you name it! If they don't have it, they can probably get it for you. One of my favorites was the lamps they make from coastal charts. So cool and original. Suffice it to say, I was floored & took a lot of time looking around - and, still probably didn't see everything. Must return soon!!!

Visiting Skipjack Nautical Wares and Marine Gallery in Olde Towne Portsmouth, Virginia, is as much a learning experience as a really good shopping one. For a mountain person such as myself who knows little about nautical culture, I find this shop and gallery teaches me about navigation maps, antique boating accessories and necessaries, concerns of contemporary boaters, and the beauty of marine paintings, carvings, and other art work. Their website offers you a chance to shop with them from a distance, but the ambiance of the shop, its congenial owners and Jack, the dog, should not be missed in person. I hope you'll leave Skipjack with several beautiful items, but I know you'll leave with a richer knowledge of life on the water.
