I really don't see why this place is considered one of the top beach locations in america for tourists. I've lived here for years now and there's really nothing nice about it compared other beach towns. There's never enough parking and because of all the people it's really trashy and old. Sure they have lots of festivals, but that just wears down on the area more.
Great for kids up to about 10 (I'm guessing). Lots of climbing and exploring and running and laughing.
Grommet Island beach park is a fantastic place to take the kids for a fun beach outing where they can also get exercise while being at the oceanfront. It's located right at the start of the boardwalk next to Rudee's inlet. I've gone here to fish for many years as well as ride my bike along the boardwalk. Grommet Island is a great addition to Virginia beach.
This amazing park, built so children of all abilities can have fun, is a testament to that Virginia Beach is a community for a lifetime for EVERYONE! Built on the sand adjacent to the first block of our amazing 3 mile boardwalk, Grommet Island is just another reason I am proud to live, work and play in Virginia Beach!
Wonderful inclusive playground... Well done for children of all abilities. Parking is a problem, but that is true all over VB.
Handicap access, infact much of the play equipment is handicap accessible. Parking is expensive as there is no free parking for this attraction but metered parking. I would have given it an excellant rating if free parking were available.
This play ground is on the beach so parents can relax in the sun and let the kids climb to their hearts content. Clean and free. Stay a few minutes or a few hours.
Pretty place, right on the beach! Fairly new, with fun beach and surfing decorations! Located at Rudee Inlet.
My husband and I took our took kids (4 yrs and 16 months) here for a morning before brunch and had a nice time. There was plenty of space to run and explore. In addition to the normal playground fare (slides, fireman's pole, etc.) there were a few sand diggers and sand moving stations. Some great photo opps on a surf board with a (fake) wave behind you. A good place to burn a little energy before a meal, to break up a bike ride or to enjoy after a swim.
I absolutely love this park! It is huge and it absolutely is wheelchair (or stroller) friendly. It is also right on the beach so they can play in the sand as well. I can't wait until next year when my son is a little bigger and walking so he can enjoy it more!
This is so great it was built for kids and individuals with disabilities so they can have access to the beach and activities.
This park is for the disabled--such a touching place. Inspired by the family of a man with ALS,I believe.
The many beach activities for kids and families and the quiet end of the beach and boardwalk. Everyone had a great and fun-filled day.
So often, the disabled child must sit and watch from their wheelchair, as their siblings and friends get to interact with the playground equipment. NOT HERE, the access is wide enough for the walkers and chairs, so the child can interact, as well and be included in on the fun. Such a great idea.
I love riding a bike along the oceanfront bike path. It's such a relaxing and enjoyable activity. This beautiful little park area, setting right on the beach down by Rudee Inlet is a great place to visit and hang-out. I love to ride down to this area of the beach. It's a quiet area, where you can hang out with the kids or be a "kid", watch the activity around Rudee Inlet, check-out the surfers on the ocean, relax on the beach, fly a kite or just sit around and people-watch. Most kids love playgrounds. How often do you find one right on the beach. It's clean, well-maintained and there are public restrooms nearby.
