I haven't experienced LG during the winter (Lights and Christmas, etc.), but I can say that the warmer months aren't to be missed. The Children's Garden has a splash park that is great! Other things to entertain such as a giant sandbox and a tree house. I haven't made it to the butterfly exhibit, but it looks like a worthy thing to make...I hear the butterflies are most active in the morning. I don't give it five stars only because it is kind of expensive, but I understand there's a lot to maintain.
A relatively inexpensive and relaxing place to go...if not for the occasional screaming brats (good luck finding a public place w/o that now days), it'd be perfect. Very friendly staff too.
Lewis Ginter is beautiful in the Spring and Summer with all the gardens. It is also worth visiting during the holidays for the Festival of Lights.
Right now, the flowers are dormant, but the orchid atrium is open and so is the main building. Even though the flowers are not in bloom, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens is a marvelous place to walk and reflect on life!
I was so excited to see the miniature dolls houses back on display inside again this year. The church made from plants was fab and I just love all the displays, the Saloon, the garages, the airstream,. The trains were also back again, everyone enjoys pressing all the buttons. The rest of the indoor celebration was the story of the bicycle in Richmond. Outside the lights were quite similar to before but always enjoyable. The reflection off the lake was beautiful. Continuing the cycling theme there were lights resembling wheels hanging from trees and a sculpture made of bicycles.
Beautiful, so many things to see. Will be going back with my hubby and son. Very lush and well taken care of. Beautiful butterflies and plants.
Went here for the Gardenfest of Lights with my partner and mom. We all loved the incredible light displays. So colorful, majestic and cozy. I would recommend this place to anyone and hope to return again next year. We also ate in the cafe and the food was very good. They had some lovely Christmas trees as well as unusual and clever lighting that all remained true to themes of the botanical gardens history.
The gardens are a definitive stop when visiting Richmond. Walking the grounds with a trip through the green house full of orchids is an easy hour+, depending on your interest. If you visit in the fall, the butterfly exhibit is worth it as well. Very quiet and serene environment in the city.
A great peaceful escape, naturally it displays its beauty more when spring covers these beautiful grounds with color, but there is much to enjoy year round. Make certain you visit the orchids, absolutely stunning. New enjoyed the winter holiday lights, but they were not as compelling as the spring and early summer beauty.
I enjoyed the Gardenfest of Lights this past holiday season. It was a small crowd, due to cold weather and Thurs. night for Fidos after Five. Enjoyed delicious bowl of crab soup in cafe. Like the theme - biking and this history of LGBG as a biking destination in the earlier years. Started Christmas shopping in gift shop.
This garden is a wonderful date outing. The gardens are some of the best in the country and are ever changing. There are several restaurants, a gift shop, library of gardening information. It is fun to go here throughout the year. The guest +1 means you can use it for dates, and then the guest can take another friend with them on other occasions. It's well worth the money.
The gardens are spectacular, especially in the Spring. To wander along the paths with someone special is a great way to spend an afternoon. Always improving.
My husband and I took our 16 and 18 year old granddaughters to the Dominion Garden Fest of Lights in very early January. We booked at this date after Christmas to avoid the crowds. We dressed appropriately for the cold and embarked on this adventure of winding paths and gloriously colored lights. Some displays involved lights of one color travelling up a tree's outline, while others followed the theme this year of handmade grids to form bicycles of brilliant hues. There were surprises around every corner, and we were able to enjoy the welcoming serving of hot chocolate and coffee. Go any time of year, as there is always beauty and fascination to learn of the beautiful God-given variety of treasures growing in the earth! (The gift shop is absolutely stunning and carries some of the most beautiful jewelry I've ever seen.)
Lewis Ginter caters to each person. They constantly choreograph new exhibits, such as the butterflies, flowers, and the Christmas Wonderland of light shows. Concerts and wonderful food abound at this fantastic Virginia attraction.Bring the family, bring the girlfriend, bring your parents. Tours are not long, but are very interesting. The food is good, and the artistry unmatched. Check their program for the attraction that you just can't miss.
A must for the Holiday lights ...Butterflies display...music venues or just a great hike around the sights any time of the year. Still want to try the Tea House!!! Love the gift shop!!!
