This museum is a great museum for a small city. The wild animal room is the best you can find. Well maintained and the history of the area is great.

We spent a lovely late morning to mid afternoon here. Admission is free, but donation appreciated. The museum has a very interesting local collection including prehistoric exhibits up to present day, the Waggoner family ranch history and the talking cowboy (hologram) who tells us what life was like on the cattle drives. Museum Director Sherry and Ponchy both were so welcoming and highly informative and helped make the history live for us. There is a lot more to Vernon, Texas than we realised:-) A wonderful experience, don't miss it.

I haven't been here yet, but while researching a trip I noticed a reviewer stated that the website address was incorrect. That's true. The correct address, I believe is RRVM.net.

we stopped by this museum and were amazed at the history and other wonderful things in this lovely museum. it has everything from 1,000,000 year old dinosaur artifacts, Native American artifacts, cowboy lore and history, the nation's largest and most comprehensive collection of mounted animals, plus much much more. we were really impressed that each visitor gets a guided tour by a very knowledgeable and wonderful individual, Miss Ponchie. this is a free museum that only requests a contribution. we thought we would spend an hour or so there, and two hours later we left with a new appreciation for the history of this area. please check their hours of operation because this is not a 9-5, 7 day a week attraction.

Enjoyable small museum with exhibits pertinent to the area. Wonderful staff that love to visit and show you around. Exceptional quality for a small museum...you will not be disappointed in a visit here.

The website link provided for this attraction goes to an adult website. Completely unexpected... Please fix the link!

We visited the museum on a weekday afternoon and planned to spend an hour. Two hours later, we were still inside. We began browsing on our own and were joined partway through by Ponchie, a docent there. Although we had lived in southern Texas I was unfamiliar with the history of this area and the part that cattle ranching played in it. If you have a question about anything in the museum Ponchie can answer it - or find out for you. My guess is that the talking "Cowboy Rick" was intended to appeal to children but we enjoyed listening to all of his recordings. We were more than happy to leave a contribution for this otherwise FREE museum. It was a bit hard to find. Tucked back from the road it looks like just another building on the campus there. We saw the sign after we were already past and had to turn around at the next intersection. Check the hours before you go because this isn't a 9-5, 7 day a week attraction.

I've been to this museum a couple of times in my life, and the exhibits have always been the same. If you're in town, we have a new museum opening soon, at the old downtown jail. It should beat this one, hands down.

SW Oklahom and Northwest Texas are both loaded with western history and the great cattle ranches of the post civil war and expansion west. All are worth the stop and each has some jewels.

A lovely afternoon was spent by my husband and I in this lovely little museum. The manager went out of her way to talk us through the exhibits, make us feel welcome and then went the extra mile to get information and an introduction for us to a local business. They have great plans for a future interactive museum which sounds great and should have our support. Go there if you are in the area....

WOW!!!! This is not your normal small town museum. From the incredible mural of the Waggoner Ranch history painted by a renowned artist to the collection of wild life animals, visitors will not be disappointed in this upscale museum just off of Highway 287. It is free to all but they will certainly accept a donation as you leave. The gift shop is perfect for children's educational gifts and everything is moderately priced. It doesn't take long to view the museum and is well worth the extra time from your travels. You never know when there is a traveling art display or local gorgeous quilts hanging on the walls. What a treasure for Vernon Texas.

This is a fine small museum that can be visited in an hour or so, but is worth a longer look. The museum has the expected displays on the history of the area which is interesting as it lies within the former territory of various Indian tribes and along the trail of later cattle drives from Texas northward. Surprisingly, there is a very good natural history section with many species on display. Also, there is a section devoted to the large Waggoner Ranch, which is headquartered nearby, with many sculptures by a Waggoner descendant. Entrance to the museum is free.
