As true chocolate lovers we saw a sign for this shop along the Turquoise Trail and stopped! Lots of chocolate bricks in different and unique flavors. Offers to taste and choose were not refused. We bought several varieties to take with us for desserts at our vacation rental in Abiquiu. Stopped on our way back for supplies for the trip home. Excellentl! Don't miss this little quirky town and especially the chocolate shop if your are a chocoholic.

Harvey Shugarman is a GENIUS!!! He is responsible for creating of some of the best and most interesting chocolate combinations I've ever tasted. The green chile-cashew-dark chocolate was my favorite, but there were so many different varieties, it was really hard to choose. A definite must for the adventurous foodie and the town of Madrid is a total trip! You will never forget it... Love, love, love it!!!

You MUST travel the Turquoise Trail, Albuquerque to Santa Fe, and you must do yourself the immense favor of stopping at this most exquisite Chocolate Shop. The owner, Harvey, has created amazing creations that will blow your mind. Mostly it is all organic and 100% delicious. My son, daughter-in-law and I spent an hour in the shop and it was just a memory will will always remember. AND I will definitely mail order Christmas gifts. Familt=y teens was all I could chose. They are 30 and 31.

The town of Madrid is on the Turquoise Trail and a fun find on my journey from Santa Fe to Albuquerque. The Turquoise Trail is so much more fun than traveling the interstate. The town is full of artist owned and run shops. Take the time to chat with the artists. They love to share the local history and inspiration for their art. The Chocolate Shop is an adventure of its own: a chocolate tasting! How sweet is that! If you are looking for unique New Mexican art without the Santa Fe prices, Madrid is for you!

Take the advice of other reviewers and if you are driving through Madrid, you MUST stop here. I cannot say enough good things about the owner of the shop. A chocolate master, friendly and knowledgeable. It is not cheap, but you can sample many varieties and decide on your favorite! You can spend the same amount of money are get several Hershey bars or a small amount of the most incredible chocolate you will ever taste.

My Husband, myself, and our 4 boys stopped here last weekend and I will start by saying YUMMY! The shop owner had us sampling chocolate, after Chocolate, after Chocolate, until we found something we liked - or in our case, a few things that we liked! We ended up getting the lemongrass white Chocolate, the blueberry milk Chocolate, and a dark Chocolate with berries - all for a very reasonable price too! (Unlike the candy shops you see in the Mall!) Ok, so beyond the Chocolate...the owner (and his Dog!) are very friendly and laid back. He let my Kiddos play with a pretty neat gumball machine he has on the wall while picking what we wanted. (What can I say, there are plenty of choices to choose from!)So in closing, if you're going to stop in Madrid, do yourself a favor and stop here...you won't be disappointed! On an unrelated note, I think I saw this shop owner on the show "Anthony Bourdain - Parts Unknown" (when Anthony was in New Mexico) - I could be mistaken, but I think that was him! Correct me if I'm wrong...

There is not much I can add that previous reviewers have not said (the reviews have been glowing!) but I can confirm that this place is a must visit for anyone visiting Madrid. Every time I need a gift for a chocolate lover this is the only place I go. Harvey is friendly, passionate, and energetic about his chocolate and he's always happy to give you a sample. The combinations he puts together are very unusual but absolutely amazing. My favorite so far has been the Green Chile Cashews and Macadamia Nut Chocolate he makes. Also, I had no idea that salted chocolate was soooooo delicious! This is a great souvenir to bring home for yourself or friends if you're visiting NM, you can guarantee that it will not go unappreciated! Also check out the local handmade pottery available for sale in his shop while you're there, it's very nice :)

This is a world-class chocolate shop that just happens to be nestled in a revived New Mexico mining town. Madrid has seen its ups and downs, even in its more recent incarnations as a haven for artist ex-pats from Santa Fe and then a day-trip destination and back around again. What you will always find there are people who love the New Mexico that artists have always loved and Harvey Shugarman is every bit that kind of person. His chocolates are works of art, masterfully crafted and lovingly shared. Walk into his shop and he will give you a taste of everything he makes and you will quickly understand a whole new level of the pleasure chocolate can give. I hope Madrid never changes its quirky ways and I hope Shugarman's stays exactly as it is right now, but this shop is truly a destination as much as seeing the Georgia O'Keeffe museum or skiing at Taos.

I thought Madrid was a little slice of heaven, until I went to Shugarman's ...that was a BIG slice of heaven! Knowledgeable, pleasant, helpful staff who willingly and abundantly serve up chocolate samples. Very unique combinations that really "work" together to make your taste buds sing and your body say, "THANKS!" I love dark chocolate and it doesn't get better than this. Go...and you will find I am absolutely right!

We made a special trip to Madrid, NM to visit Shugarman's Little Chocolate Shop just to purchase the most fabulous gourmet chocolates one can find in New Mexico. The owner, Harvey Shugarman, has been making his special chocolates for many years, and his knowledge of chocolate making, use of fresh and unique ingredients, and outgoing personality simply enrich the experience of visiting his charming little shop. And of course, there's the chocolate: dried mango dipped in dark chocolate with red chile, dark chocolate and Thai chile cashews, milk chocolate and fresh macadamia nuts and cashews, dark chocolate infused with smoked applewood salt, or milk chocolate adorned with green chile and pine nuts, just for starters the day we came in. Ingredients are ordered specifically for the unique blends Harvey creates, and samples are given out freely and eagerly. You'll wind up trying most, if not all, of the daily featured delicacies. We did!Be sure to visit Shugarman's Little Chocolate Shop when you travel through Madrid. You just cannot go wrong with any of Shugarman's gourmet chocolates!

I was in Santa Fe back in October and I'm kicking myself for not giving this place a review. I realize that chocolate shops may not be at the top of some people's list but this one is worth the stop along the turquoise trail. Not too mention the owner is so friendly and creative! He let me sample almost everything. I suggest you try something spicy. Enjoy!

Our family was delighted to discover this wonderful shop in Madrid, which sells interesting and unique varieties of handmade milk, dark, and white chocolate. The owner distributed plenty of samples to try, which included mango and red chili. He ran an award-winning restaurant in Baltimore, MD for years, and then moved to NM to follow his dream of opening this store. It's a culinary delight for foodies and chocolate-aficionados!
