locator lake trail

Two to three hour hike one way! Some level some steep inclines. Rocks with lake overlooks, deep woods. Ever changing scenery!

We took the hike to the lake and it was very buggy. My friend got eaten up - welts on back of legs etc. I luckily had long pants and shirt sleeves so didn't get bit as bad - just a couple on the hands. But got bit by horsefly on lip and it swelled up. bugs kept going for my eyes. The view at the end is nice but once you stood still the bugs attacked. Plus the visitors centers closed on Sunday and Monday and we did Monday so couldn't use the canoe in the smaller interior lake like we had planned.

Nice two mile hiking trail has beautiful views and ends at a pristine lake that can be canoed. So peaceful and quiet.

Pack plenty of water and a snack for your hike. You'll go through bogs, beaver dams, hilltops and end at Locator Lake. Before you go go to the Kabetogama Visitor Center to rent a canoe to paddle around in while you are there. You should also pack your swimsuit and take advantage of a great lake to simw in.

I am in my late forties, my son and I hiked into Locator for a day of fishing. The hike was long for me although my son (22) handled it with ease. My son and I caught lots of nice northern, several around 30" and had one 40 plus right up to the canoe. My son used a spinner for awhile and caught several very nice large mouth bass. Worth the hike. We canoed through several lakes and back during our stay.
