Prairie Bookstore had books of every kind and a cafe. We bought a book which was signed by the author.
Some people call this the pedestrian mall walk, I think. It is fun looking at all of the Iowa Hawkeye decorations, and also the brass statues, and all of the interesting sidewalk sayings, someone has been pretty creative, the park benches are all painted by students. This is worth the walk, and I would recommend it to a family. There is usually something going on around the library, bands, book fairs, craft shows, etc. It is a fun place to go, and there is a playground the kids really love right outside the library.
Much of the walk is plaques in the sidewalk. It is difficult to enjoy it when there are many other pedestrians. So go during the Hawkeye game it is much quieter. This would not be something for young kids.
I have never been the the Iowa Avenue Literary Walk. I have not heard to much about it but never have heard and negative remarks about the establishment.
Never been anywhere where their Walk of Fame celebrates key literary figures. This town has it's priorities straight. Hint: Go to Prarie Lights Bookstore and buy the guide to the Literary Walk for $3.
Brass busts of famous authors blended into the pavement. U of Ia on the north and downtown on the south. Best dining at Atlas World Grill $$(a la carte).
Actually it is just the sidewalk of Iowa Avenue in downtown area. It is the last place you should visit in Iowa city. Goose town & north_side are more historical. The square between public library and old capitol mall reflects the weekend life of residence.
