We all love running up the big sand hill. It is hard to climb, and gives the kids something to do for an hour or more sometimes. Its also good to run up if you're looking to exercise!
I hadn't put this park high on our "to do" list when we visited Boise. We spontaneously went to check it out one early evening (in Feb) as the sun was setting. Bummer for my 5 year old son who wanted lots of time at the playground (it was dark by the time we walked back down off the "camel's back" hill) but WOAH, lucky us. What a phenomenal place to watch the sun set!We didn't slide down the dirt slide this time, maybe if we go back to Boise we'll plan for it. This was just a really unexpected, cool spot to hang out. As I said, we did get down the hill when it was dark, so we only let my son run around the playground for a few minutes. It was nice that they didn't have "park closes at dusk" signs all over the place and no one chased us off. Very peaceful, very pleasant. And did I mention the view??
You will want to see if you have what it takes to climb the first hill and then run down the second hill. The park is popuar and includes a play ground, sand pit for volley ball, and open space to toss a frisby or football. The park is small with limited number of areas to eat, so bring a pic nic blanket. Also, if you like tennis there is a small tennis court.
This is a great way to get away from the downtown area, without really having to get away. It's a nice walk from the North end through old and well-kept neighborhoods. This park offers lots of walking trails and fantastic views of the valley.
Easy access to parking and to the foothill walking paths. Great place to bring young children to play and walk.
This park has something for everyone. Playground, open space, tennis courts, the big hill to climb and access to hiking trails. It is also up the street from Hyde Park where you can find all kinds of good things. Great Place!
Easy to get to, open spaces and a hike everyone could handle. The park is in great shape, and close to all the shops on N 13th.
What a view from the camels back. Our two boys, 2 and 3 had no problem hiking to the top. Ample parking, nice playground. Well kept.
They have a playground for kids, very clean toilettes, tables for picnic and a nice hill for hiking. Lots of trees, close to downtown.
Excellent, convenient place for hiking. Great location for easy trail access. Variety of trails available for distance and level of difficulty. Walker, runner, biker friendly.
hard to believe you are minutes from a major University and vibrant downtown while walking these gorgeous, quiet trails. the city does a superb job maintaining this beautiful park and trails.
Funniest part of visit: Watching a local cross-country team swaggering around, bragging about how they'd "beat each other up the hill"...and seeing them burn out like cheap matches about 1/4 way up the hill- yeah, it's THAT steep. There are a couple of suicidal crazies who try to bike down this guillotine of a hill every so often. For your sake (and mine), don't. Your teeth don't belong in your spleen. Camel's Back (with hills which should be named "The Straw That Broke The") is a great place to take your date, your kids, your dog-who-always-wants-to-fetch, your ferret collection, and anyone else who wants to get REALLY tired while having a lot of outdoor fun. The playground equipment is a blast (for adults, too, although not as musical as Settlers), there is open room for ten simultaneous touch football games, and enough grass to make your grazing mutt feel like a college student after a three-day bender. (Warning: If you let your dog eat that much grass, I really, REALLY hope you drive a car with a plastic interior....)That being said, the hills (humps, really) of Camel's Back are impressive; putting a herd of the real thing to shame. I'm talking "don't fall down me, or you'll be part of the local goth skull and bones decor" impressive. Unfortunately for the directionally-challenged, they're not all clearly marked. A signpost that says "Military Road" may take you straight there...or there via a set of lengthy twists and turns, the decoding of which would make M.C. Escher grab his head in pain and go for a lie-down.A great place for walkers, runners, sports fans of all kinds...well, except hockey...and families, Camel's Back is a favorite for a reason: It's a BLAST to visit.
Get to the hill top and you get a decent view of Boise. Quite a nice place for children. Nothing to eat but still OK.
This park is in the north end of Boise, just at the start of the foot hills, you can climb up from the nice grassy park to the top of a foot hill and look all over Boise. There are nice trees to sit under, bathrooms too. There is a hippy fair every late summer also.
The walk up Camel's back was not bad, was fun to see who could make it. The trails down the other side offered beautiful views and lots of photo ops.Very nice place to visit, glad I did!
