I have always used this library with pleasure, the book selection is really up to date, recorded media also. The staff is always friendly and helpful. And then one day I found out the secret of why I could never find anything new on the recorded media shelves when I asked the friendly librarian why. Haha she said, we have the new recorded books, but you have to reserve them. Once I found that out I am never out of excellent recorded books on CDs. It just never occurred to me I guess. So, the homeless people. It makes me sad to hear how upset homeless people make so many people feel. It reminds me of the 60s when people said the same thing about hippies, all of whom had places to live in those days. Or what people say about minorities, of whom we have jolly few in this rich town. Or immigrants, or,or,or......"Gee, can't we all just get along?"
I would not recommend the Boulder Public Library as it is full of homeless people and it has become a safety issue that needs to be addressed.
I love the architecture of this building -- whoever designed it was in tune with the surrounding ecology and the Boulder culture. Unfortunately, the new renovations, in my opinion, are uninspired, dull, and lifeless. I would not go so far as to call it ugly, because that would imply that someone tried something that didn't work. No one tried anything with this space -- in my opinion, this place is now just a sterile repository for books & media. Worth seeing from the outside, but don't get your hopes up for the inside.
The Boulder Public Library is such a gift to the community. We attended an event for National History Day, the staff was wonderful, they assisted my daughter in finding 12 resources she was needing and were so kind and respectful to her. This is rare these days as she is a young teen and most adults are not friendly. I love this library and the staff!
Interesting building but every time I've visited there are homeless inside and outside. It is a very popular facility and the computers are always all in use. I'd say it is average otherwise (content wise). Not worth a special trip to have parking issues and potentially be assaulted with gross smells or overpowering marijuana scents.
The Boulder Public Library is an incredible resource for all residents and visitors of the Boulder area. Not only does the library offer a wide variety of books, media, etc for resources of enjoyment and education, there are tremendous programs for self-improvement. One such program is Boulder Reads!. Boulder Reads offers free reading tutoring for anyone whose reading level is below the 11th grade. The tutors are local residents that attend a training workshop lead by the Boulder Library, who then get paired with a student and offer their time, patience, and knowledge to assist with improving reading, writing, and comprehension. The library also provides free GED classes for those wanting to sit for their high school equivalency exam. If you know someone who needs assistance or if you're interested in volunteering to tutor, please contact the library and ask for the Boulder Reads program.
The library itself - the resources (books, magazines, computers) and librarians - are all fantastic. The downtown building is being renovated right now but is huge. There are lots of places to sit and read or browse. There was a cafe on the bridge over the river and there will be a new one opening soon. The only problem is that many homeless come in and hang around. It's a little bit off-putting but is also the case in places like Barnes & Noble. They have several branches - all very good. You can also have access on-line to electronic resources and inter-library loan. The main library and branches have special programs - it's worth checking out.
Beautiful library, now undergoing renovation. Modern look and easy to get to. Located in Boulder, on beautiful grounds that you can sit and enjoy the views and the river that flows alongside it. During the spring, summer and fall the area is filled with a farmer's market (twice a week) and many weekend fairs. Great to just stroll along the river, or the beautiful park and grounds with your significant other
Wow is the best word for the Boulder Public Library - from its location along the Boulder Creek Path, to the inspiring architecture, to the superb natural lighting on the second floor, this is the BEST public library anywhere in the USA.
I will preface this review with...I love libraries. This one was no exception. The people that work here are lovely. They smiled and greeted as I entered and asked if they could help me. There is a small water brook inside the library that adds a little extra touch! Please note that right now they are renovations going on. I can’t wait to go back and see it all finished.
This is so much more than just a library. There are art exhibits, performances, lectures and so much more. A visit to the library on Broadway and Arapaho is a must do in Boulder!
If you are visiting Boulder, this is a must see building for it's incredible architectural style including lots of windows, a siral staircase, and a great view over Boulder Creek from the second floor. The reference room on the second floor has a south facing balcony with spectacular views of the Flatirons. They also have free wifi, free concerts, free movies, free story time for kids and brochures of things to do in Boulder.
This is a neat library to visit but there are a large number of homeless typically in the building or right out in front but that is part of the Boulder makeup. The library is currently undergoing some renovations so access is a little different. It's a good place to stop and read the paper/use the restroom. We have a library card and have great access to ebooks also.
This library is filled with homeless. It stinks the moment you walk in. The library itself is extremely outdated. For such a large city with and extreme amount of money I am disappointed.
This is an incredible library! Beautifully made, friendly staff, a wonderful children's section. Great story teller for the young children and a place where they can explore books whether they are crawlers or walkers. Also plenty for the adult to do and see!
