eldorado canyon

One of the best places to go rock climbing and hiking lots of diversity and picturesque views. Like Mikey mouse mountain epic crags and old railroad grades.

We hike here several times a year. The canyon is one of the premier rock climbing places in the USA. It's pretty neat to watch the climbers. There are telescopes in a couple of places. One can access the park through the main gate & pay a fee to enter. It's a nice uphill climb to the main trail from which to view the climbers. There is also the Rattlesnake Trail which is about a one hour uphill climb to the ruins of a hotel that burned down around 1912. Pieces of broken dishes still can be found. We access the main trail from a different direction: turn left (South) by the Ashram and go to the end of the short road & park. There is a trailhead that begins there and will take you into the canyon (maybe a 30-40 minute walk). No entry fee from this approach.

Park outside the canyon and walk in to see all the climbers on the walls of the canyon. Also, the Eldorado Springs has a natural springs hot pool if you care to try it. Hiking paths maintained by the county abound.

Canyon setting right outside of "metro" area. Fun to watch the rock climbers (ice climbers in winter). Nice day hikes...great place for a picnic. A must see for visitors.

10 minute drive from Boulder. Trails are scenic and you get a great view of the valley (Denver) too. You can take the trail head before getting to the state park and end up in the state park.

This park is in between Boulder and Louisville. It offers a wide variety of trails as well as technical climbing areas. A picnic area with creek is great for younger children. I have seen deer and fox on occasion. It's typically not too crowded. It's just past the hot springs in Eldorado. Cleanup from the 2013 flooding seems complete.

It is only 8 bucks to get in and if you have awd vehicle you can drive to the ranger station and then two great hike options, one to the continental divide and one around a mountain. Absolutely beautiful. Bring water, shoe chains are helpful and so are walking sticks. Weather is unpredictable so be prepared. But no matter what, just go!

This area is very pretty for a drive, walk or hike, nothing much in town. Pretty views. Nice spots for a picnic. Many rock climbers to watch. It can be quite windy, so check it out before you go

Great drive and hiking trails. Often not as crowded as Chautauqua although you can also access the Mesa trail from this road. There is a nice mountain biking trail and many hiking opportunities along with decent bathrooms.

Breathtaking drive into the Park. The rock formations are so unique. And you have plenty to watch with all the rock climbers on the face of the rock. For those of you that are more walking/hiking speed, there is a nice trail next to the river. The sounds of the water rushing really makes you feel at peace with the world.

The town does not have much to offer. But they do have a hot springs pool if your interested. The trails in the Canyon are really nice to hike. You will have to pay to get in but it is worth the hike, scenery, and experience. Make sure to stop in at the visitor center for information. They have picnic tables and bathrooms to use.

Our guide book suggested a visit to Eldorado Canyon approx 15 minutes from Bolder City, or 40 minutes from The Strip. after turning off the highway vistas are soon beautiful. The road passes the old mine and store near Nelson which is worth a stop. We didn't do the mine tour but would return in the future. It looked like fun. Stop at the store and look at the photos of the rattle snake bite. The road leads right down to the Colorado River. At the end of the road there are clean washrooms. Similar views at times to the Grand Canyon. A short half day trip if you want to get away from the crowds of Vegas.

Very pretty canyon, I think part of the Flatirons. You drive through the quirky little town of Eldorado Springs on the way to the canyon. $8 fee for the canyon. We hiked the Rattlesnake Gulch trail to the ruins of The Crags hotel. There is a rock wall there demonstrating how they built retaining walls around the 1900s and a ruin of an old cook stove. There were 3 buildings there, back in the day, and it's amazing that there aren't more ruins even given the place was destroyed by fire. This is a fairly steep trail gaining about 1000 feet in just over a mile. But this trailhead also accesses the Fowler Trail which has some wheelchair accessibility and is a much easier hike but still gets you some pretty good views. Lots of climbers in the area that you can admire across the canyon. We had about 3 hours to spare one day and this was a very enjoyable use of the time and very convenient to Boulder.

I have done all the 'normal' tours when visiting Las Vegas, however I must mention this tour, as it is incredible. The family that own the gold mine do the tours, so it is very personal and absolutely fascinating. I took a group to visit recently and each and everyone raved about the visit. Don't miss out on this hidden treasure!!

We were in awe upon entering this beautiful place so close to Boulder, Co. They are doing some work here and making it even better! We went in about 2:30 pm to the Inner Canyon side. Got to the visitor center, went in to use the bathroom, and 2 minutes later we came out and the gentleman closed the visitor center. I thought that was odd considering it was about 2:45 pm. So we didn't get to go in at all. We hiked Fowler Trail which was the shorter, easier hike for us flatlanders. There's another hike that is more difficult but passes some old hotel ruins and then has a nice view of the continental divide. Maybe next time. There are LOTS of rock climbers here. Seems to be THE place to go to climb. The one bummer about this park, is that it is seperated into two parcels which do not connect. Hence we did not get to the other part of the park (Crescent Meadows) because it was 30-45 minute drive away. The fee was $8 to get in for the day (which was only a few hours for us) but I think it was worth it. It's a beautiful place to see and you only need a few hours here to make the most of it.
