It is seldom small villages have the financial resources to offer the public outstanding museums and FABULOUS public libraries! Westfield offers BOTH!

The McClurg Museum in Westfield, N.Y. was surprisingly interesting. The museum's artifacts provided a snapshot of early life in this Lake Erie town. It is definitely a great way to spend a leisurely hour or two.

We were so lucky to be the only 2 people on tour with docent Nancy. She is dedicated, enthusiastic, and encouraged our questions.

Great museum. Makes a nice stop while diving with Osprey charters. Did not know about the Lincoln connection and Westfield, NY. Also farmer's market on weekend.

This is a house museum with a difference - a beautifully appointed historic home with certain rooms set aside for themed exhibits. I especially appreciated the Civil War history and the many exhibits housed in the basement. Wonderful place.

This historic house/museum is chock full of beautiful antiques and interesting history. It's meticulously arranged and well thought out. The tours are great and full of great information. I highly recommend it!

The McClurg Museum in Westfield is a little known gem of local history! Not fancy or sophisticated, it is "head and shoulders" above all the local museums so many small towns have. Very much worth the effort to see this fine collection of Chautauqua County history. Saturday's Farmer's Market during the Summer combines to make this a fun and interesting family outing.

Westfield is a very walkable community. We strolled the residential streets holding hands. The Museum was a nice little stop along the way

The museum is a treasure trove of american and US history. They have the original deed for the property purchased from the Hudson Bay Co. They have artifacts about the underground railroad and the civil war. There also are documents surrounding Abraham Lincoln's visit to Westfield on his way to assume the presidency in Washington. He stopped to meet the young girl who had suggested that he grow a beard. Across the street from the McClurg are statues commerating the meeting between Lincoln and the little girl.

The Museum is very nice and has a lot of good stuff about the Westfield area and the times. But the real attraction is the village itself. Great small town. Lots of history. Even the library is cool! Main St USA. Well preserved town with many Victorian homes. Home of the original Welches Grape Juice. Antiquing is fun here. Walking on sidewalks on tree lined streets is wonderful.
