They did not have enough area setup for the timed events. They also did not have enough dirt down and the horses were slipping and falling down, been to 11 rodeos this year and this was the worst. The tickets were almost twice the cost as most rodeos. I would not go back again.
Every year on our trip to Oneonta we take all the kids to one of the baseball games as Damaschke Field. The kids take their baseball gloves and go after all the foul balls that come their way. It's a fun, inexpensive way to go and support the local teams and Damaschke field. We will be back this July.
If you are a fan of old-time baseball, this is the place for you. Though there is no longer a minor league team in town, there is a Collegiate Wood Bat team, the Oneonta Outlaws. And this squad, unlike the minor league teams, sells beer. This is a throwback stadium. Though renovated some in recent years, it still has a feel of baseball from years long past. It's about the game here, not the amenities. The press box is old and sits on top of the grand stand. The first-base line and third-base line bleachers are newer, but the grandstand and "boxes" are still older seating. There's truly not a bad seat in the house. Players and coaches are accessible for kids who like to try and get balls, bats or autographs. This was a little more relevant when the pros were here as you never knew if you were going to get an autograph of a future superstar. The people here are friendly and a well-known local has recently purchased the team, which should make the experience here even better. This is well worth a stop if you are local or coming through the area looking for some ball. The views over the outfield walls are amazing and if you get there on a night when the sunset is colorful, the view of that with the lights of the field really makes you think of baseball from years long gone.
We are season ticket holders to the Oneonta Outlaws. e can watch baseball played by young men who are tyring to make it to the big time. They have not been spoiled bgy big contracts.
A little run down, home to the local baseball team, there are trains that pass by giving ambience or distraction, depending on how you look at it. Near Cooperstown, and they do play baseball here, so...
Baseball has probably been played on this patch of grass since the Civil War, although Damaschke Field was built in the 1920's. It exists as one of the few surviving old wooden grandstands ballparks, devoid of modern updates, which adds to it's unique character. No better place to watch ball game on a summer evening as the sun sets below Franklin Mountain. I heard the Single-A Oneonta Tigers no longer play there, and if that is the case it's a real shame, this place is an old time baseball jewell.
My father, George Case, was the manager of the O-Yanks from 1969-72. I know he had wonderful memories of Oneonta and Damaschke Field. As several said in their review "Old Time Baseball" and "Old Time Atmosphere" - absolutely true!!!!For anyone interested in seeing major league baseball in COLOR from many years ago - definitely "old time baseball" but a look back at the way the game used to be - our website www.timelessbaseball.com. And you'll even see what spring training was like in Florida during the WWII era - rustic accommodations to say the least!
This is an oldtime field, if you love baseball in its basic form, this is the place to be. I belive a single A Detroit minor league team plays here (It might even be a lower level team).
I grew up in Oneonta and spent many a summer night at Damascke Field. The family that owned it forever (Naders) recently sold the field. This was a single A affiliate for the Yankees forever. I saw many Yankee greats before they were great here. When I was younger the Old time Yankee greats and other Hall of Famers signed balls for free before the Hall of Fame weekend here. I have Joe Dimaggio, Mickey Mantle, Bob Feller balls from those days.Classic old school park with huge power alleys. This is my field of dreams location and I spent many legion baseball games in the summer at this field. Nothing fancy just old time baseball park.
This is the closest pro baseball to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. The field is about 30-40 minutes away. Stopped in on a Sunday after visiting the Hall of Fame during the day. The old original grandstand has wood benches and is pretty cool looking. There are metal bleachers down each lines (only the third base side ones have backs). These two (the old grandstand and the new metal bleachers) kind of look weird together, but all in all the park is a nice place to spend an afternoon/evening. Everything is affordable since this is Single A, the tix were $7 and the food is cheap ($1 snow cones for example). No alcohol at this park! Fun times though for sure!G Man
