Saw a show here last summer -my first time. What a neat place. Brings you back in time a bit seeing a play here. Grass roots playhouse in an old barn -can't beat it.
If you want an inexpensive evening out, I highly recommend going to the playhouse. It is an old barn that has been converted into a theater. The cast is great and the performers put their hearts into the shows. We go at least once a year. Michael has a great personality and we have always enjoyed the shows.
We've seen 3 of their 4 productions this season and they are really, really good and quite entertaining. First wax a Sherlock Holmes mystery, then they tackled Les Mis, we were wondering how they would ever pull it off but they did! Fantastic!!! Last was Driving Miss Daisy, Berwick abounds with local talent!
We go to one or two shows at Hackmatack each summer and always have a good time. More of a community theater than truly a professional troupe, they always put on a good show, even when the undertaking is rather ambitious (like Les Miz). The barn setting is fun, and surprisingly comfortable. Also fun is intermission, when the concession stand offers some sort of seasonal pie with or without ice cream, along with coffee and other refreshments. The line last week for blueberry pie was so long, it took the entire intermission to get everyone served.Admission prices are reasonable, and all in all, this is a nice way to spend a summer evening.
Run like the wind to see this fantastic musical ala summer stock! So entertaining as is all the Musicals at the Barn!
Much of what makes this countryside theatre so quaint and charming is its historic location. One has to admire the incredible historical preservation which has taken place through the efforts of the Guptill Family who have owned the property since the 1600's. Summer theatre began in the historic barn in 1972 when attendees sat on bales of hay to watch the show. The barn theatre now holds 218 seats and on the evening which we there..it was a completely filled house. Upon arrival, notice the buffalo herd which graze in a nearby pasture! During intermission, enjoy homemade strawberry shortcake or blueberry pie (depending upon the season). The 2013 season has begun with the "Hound of the Baskervilles," and continues with 'The Sound of Music," "Les Miserables," and "Driving Miss Daisy." Nice affordable entertainment for the family in a great location!
