My wife and I arrived 20 minutes late for our white water rafting trip due to a snow storm and road works in Yellowstone Park. The office was closed but there was one guy still there who opened the door and immediately sprung into action. He contacted the owner who arrived within 10 minutes and said that they had tried to call us that morning to cancel the trip due to very cold and windy weather. we had no phone coverage where we were staying so this call was not received. He then gave us three options. 1. Come back the next day. 2. A full refund or 3 brave the lousy conditions and go ahead. We chose the third. The guide arrived and we were appropriately kitted out and took to the river. I know nothing about white water rafting so I can't comment on this experience based on previous experience. But I can say that we found it exciting and whetted my appetite to try it again. Mainly I want to congratulate the people running the enterprise. They were, to a man, friendly, patient and efficient.
We used the Flying Pig to book a guide into Yellowstone NP for our summer vacation. We got Eric and we couldn't have been happier! We went on our guided trip early in our vacation and he was able to not only show us lots of cool stuff but also gave us recommendations of where to go when we were on our own. Because of him, we were able to see the wolves of Yellowstone, not once but twice, and on our own. It was incredible! I understand he was supposed to spend about 8 hours with us, and instead, he spent all day, from 8AM to at least 8:30PM with us. We had a great time, and I can't thank him enough. He probably, single handedly made our trip! He certainly exposed us to a wonderful park!
Both I and my wife are not very experienced fly fishing anglers. Tyler was our guide for a fantastic day of fishing. After some brief instructions and reminders, we were floating down the Yellowstone River. Within the first hour, eight fish boated with a few almosts as well. Tyler had to work extremely hard due to heavy winds, however for the entire full day trip, he kept us in the prime locations. Not too often when one can say they caught well over 35 or more fish. Tyler was not only an outstanding guide, but easy to get along with. Considering we never met him, we had great conversations all day, learned a lot about the area and improved our fly casting ability by 200%. Would certainly recommend this trip to any and all, experienced for not.
We booked a 2 hour horseback ride through the store with the Hells A Roaring Ranch. Our guide, Chandler, was fantastic. He was very personal and had good stories about different places along the trail. The horses were very well cared for and easy to control. While the ride itself was just north of the park, the views were beautiful, and offered a nice overlook view of Gardiner. We spent a week in Yellowstone and this was one of our favorite things we did. Highly recommended!
My 67 year old dad, my husband, & 3 boys (ages 8-14) said this was the highlight of their trip. It really let's boys be boys & wild at heart. The staff was friendly & knowledgeable. The price is a great value.
Great story behind this business. The current owner is super attentive and did a great job juggling all of our special requests. Despite being a mostly seasonal staff, everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. Raft ride is a must! - do the full day. Personal Yellowstone tour WAY beyond what we were expecting. Had a vacation our kids will remember forever thanks to the Flying Pig!!
We did a full day walk and wade trip with Flying Pig. Our guide Tyler, took us on the Yellowstone and we enjoyed a day fishing cutthroat and enjoying incredibly scenic views of the Yellowstone River. Tyler was an excellent guide, knowledgeable, helpful an got us into great fish! I would highly recommend working with Tyler and Flying Pig Adventure Company!
Great outfit, quality equipment and friendly staff. Our guide Mike made it a blast in spite of wind and rain (even lightening in the distance). We highly recommend!
Our guide Alex was Awesome with our participants and took good care of us on the river. The views are fabulous, but loved the special they gave us for the special needs of our clients.
My daughter had studied Wyoming in 5th grade and we decided it would be a great family trip to go see Yellowstone, Tetons and Jackson. I had no idea where to start. I found Flying Pig Adventure online and it appealed to me because it was a one stop shop. They offered the cabin and the excursions we were interested in. I even added a fly fishing day to our agenda. Totally customized trip. Steve and Sandy are the owners and I liked the feel of the husband/wife ownership. Steve helped me decide to fly into Bozeman Montana, as it would be cheaper than Yellowstone airport and Nadia helped me design the daily activities so that they were proportioned and nothing was rushed. We also got a tip from them on a local beach area next to the Yellowstone river where we would go and hang out every afternoon that we were free. Another insider tip was the boiling river- not on the map- that was a hot springs mixing with the cool river water. What an amazing time. WE love the Cub's Den for our family, very convenient and the grocery store 3 blocks away. We made dinner every night and ate in the back yard patio table. Made it feel really homey. WE then traveled south to the Tetons and Jackson. As the Tetons were magnificent, Jackson was a hotel and we missed Gardiner and the feel of the town, the Cub's Den and the Flying Pig people. I would highly recommend this company and all their excursions, guides were so fun and knowledgeable. My family was thrilled with the vacation!! A highlight in our lives.
I would tell anyone heading to Gardiner Montana to take a trip with the pig....all there staff was super friendly and helpful....prices were very reasonable and we went rafting with kenny(8 mile) he was awesome planning a longer rafting trip with hopefully kenny next year!!! Thanks Flying Pig!!!
We booked the saddle and paddle package while on our honeymoon on Yellowstone. The horseback ride was incredible. ..the view was amazing and on an actual trail, not a dirt road like some of the other companies do. It was pouring rain for our raft ride but they provided wet suits and dry gear (and even a sweet hat) that kept us warm and dry. We couldn't have asked for nicer, more accommodating guides or a better experience.
My husband and my two boys, ages 6 and 8, used this company for our whitewater rafting and fishing charter at the beginning of July 2014. We took the 8-mile trip for whitewater and really enjoyed it. I was concerned my 6 year-old would be scared and originally went for the less exciting option (I believe the 8-mile trip is the middle option, btw), but they assured me that although it was exciting, it was not terrifying. Well, they were correct. However, you should be aware that the bigger whitewater starts almost immediately upon leaving the launch, so there's no time for the timid folks to get used to the water. My little guy started crying and holding on to me immediately, but it didn't take too long for him to get used to it and enjoy it. The fishing charter guy was very friendly and took a lot of time with the boys. I would definitely use this company again.
On a recent trip to Gardiner, while visiting Yellowstone, we booked the Saddle & Paddle package. After checking in at the Flying Pig's office in town, we journeyed up a mountain to a ranch. The company had provided a very-detailed map. The setting for the horseback ride is gorgeous, and the staff do an excellent job of orienting those unfamiliar with horse riding. We saw elk & deer on the 5-mile trail ride. At the end of the ride, we were served a great-tasting lunch. Now it was time for the 8-mile, whitewater rafting trip down the Yellowstone River. The rafting guides were as skilled as the handlers back at the ranch, just more laid back. The ride was exhilarating! At the end of the trip, we were loaded into a bus and taken back to the starting point in town. I would do this package again!
We ventured outside of YS to have lunch and spontaneously decided to add a rafting trip. A great feature here is that you board the boat right from their back door and the return bus trip is nice and quick. This saved a ton of time. Shawna was our guide and she was wonderful! She knows all about the area. We were newbies to this part of the country and we asked lots of questions about Yellowstone. She was super sweet to our girls and most important, she kept us safe and made sure we had a super fun rafting trip. Thanks Shawna!!
