There are virtually no instructions on where to find the three story center and museum in the huge park. It is like a game to find the hidden jewel. It is in the South east corner of the trailer park on the Vermillion River. Good luck!!! It is an interesting setting to be inside the city limits of a town. Not very active in winter, looking forward to seeing it again in the spring.
Great spot to see native trees, plants and animals from a comfortable raised nature walk. Has I nice campground and a very nice launch for those that like paddle sports.
nice park, trails, nature station, camp grounds. also a mountain bike trail area on the other side of tennis courts.
This small nature park owned by the city of Lafayette contains 40+ acres of undisturbed wild forest intersected with a coulee that drains from west to east in the park. You have to look sharp to find it. From the intersection of Louisiana Ave and Alexander Street, it is a few blocks down on the left. It shares a driveway with Acadiana Park Campground. There is a wonderful two story nature center in the park open from 8am to 5pm weekdays and 11am to 5pm on weekends. There are staff who can interpret the many exhibits including animal skulls, live snakes, flora and fauna explanations, etc. Beyond the station there are 2.5 miles of nature trails, many upon raised wooden walkways through the forest and swampy areas. What a lovely break from the traffic and sprawl of Lafayette. We took a short walk around the wooden walkways and across a bridge or two. Heard a Barred Owl several times while there. A school class was visiting as well.
