If you are a fan of the Fitzgerald's you will love this. I love this, not enough time to spend reading everything. The tour of the collection was wonderful! I love Zelda's artwork.
We had a wonderful time getting a close look at the Fitzgeralds and the lives they led, both in Montgomery and abroad. The curator was extremely well informed and had answers to all of our questions and really took the time to show us around. I will definitely recommend this museum to friends.
Video was good and informative.Too many photocopied letters etc which were mostly rather badly explained as to why they were exhibited.
The gentleman who greeted us gave a very thorough overview of the home and the former occupants - F. Scott and Zelda. The home is an excellent example of that era and the photographs, letters and articles gives the visitor a real feel for the lives and times of the Fitzgerald's. Well worth the time - seeing/exploring the neighborhood just adds to the experience.
My three young girls and I spent a great couple of hours here today thanks to Willie who greeted us warmly and provided us with a wonderful narration of the lives of Zelda and Scott. I was very pleasantly surprised at the number and quality of personal effects of the couple on site as well…. photographs, newspaper articles, letters and Zelda's artwork. I highly recommend this intriguing museum.
We spent a very interesting couple of hours touring and chatting with the extremely knowledgeable director. He offered a spontaneous, non-canned look at the couple and clearly knows his material thoroughly. Excellent arrangement of photos, letters, documents, etc
We visited this wonderful "hidden gem" in the Old Cloverdale area of Montgomery and thoroughly enjoyed our experience! The curator was so helpful, informative and answered all of our questions. His narrative really added so much to the experience. There were many items, including photographs, personal items and art works by Zelda. The real life story of F. Scott and Zelda is fascinating and better than fiction.I would definitely recommend a visit to this museum. It was well worth the admission and time spent!
Went for a party they threw a few years ago. It is a small but very historic place. You can spend about an hour here, I think, but very worth the visit. It is a beautiful house and they have a lot of historic writings.
The Lawyer and his wife, bought this home, got others to donate to this museum, and have built it into a really nice facility, over the years. I donated some work back in the early 1980's, and am proud to have done so to such a great landmark and attraction to Montgomery, AL. area.
I was blown away by the quality and quantity of information. It was incredibly well organized, beginning with a video that gave a good overview of Scott and Zelda's life, and how it intersected with Montgomery and the house. There were then several rooms packed with pictures, letters, galleys, pieces of art and assorted other materials, including F. Scott's correspondence with his daughter Scotty and with Ernest Hemingway. Each significant piece was extremely well-summarized, so that you could spend 30 seconds to get the high-level, or 5 minutes to dig into the source material. Totally transporting if you like Fitzgerald- 3 hours went by in a heartbeat!
Professor of literature? Interested reader? Or maybe you saw a movie version of "The Great Gatsby" and it piqued your interest about the famous author... Expert or casual visitor, local or traveler, the museum will guide you into the razzmatazz jazz age world of two gifted and complicated writers . We spent a fascinating couple of hours in the lovely house. The photographs letters are carefully chosen to reveal the layers of talent, personality and life experiences of both Fitzgeralds Lots of surprising and interesting memorabilia, too and Zelda's extraordinary artworks. You begin with a short movie, and then can tour the exhibits at your own pace. We were fortunate to have the knowledgeable and personable director all to ourselves on the day we visited and he had many interesting insights to share. So, go to the museum, and don't forget to support their fine efforts with a visit to the gift shop,an extra donation and/or a review on Trip Advisor, etc. We are going to urge our friends to stop by. Hope you will, too!!
Dear JoannaBW_13,10 hours in the car is a great commitment to come see us, so let us first thank you for your effort! We are thrilled that you are intrigued enough by Scott and Zelda to come to Montgomery, and we hope you left even more intrigued. There were four novels published about Zelda in the past couple of years, so you should have plenty to keep you busy in the coming months! Also, you'll be happy to know that all our new exhibits and artifacts are now on display - now on to making the captions!Best to you, and please come again the next time you get the urge ... like perhaps on May 2, for our "flapper party," the Gala! Tickets go on sale on Monday, February 2!The Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum Association
Dear Fred G,What a kind, thoughtful review to leave for us! It thrills to no end to read such gracious and eloquent words about our museum and our director. We hope to continue to provide such a wonderful experience to all visitors to our doors. Please come again sometime, and thank you very much for your review!Best,The Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum
Hello beagle821!Well, as your review touches upon, one of our goals for 2014 was to annex the entire downstairs of the house for the museum, and I am proud to say that we have done that! If you could have stayed more than two hour back in December, you could have stayed even longer than that now!As you remember, our exhibits cover the entirety of the Fitzgerald's lives - and not just their time in Montgomery. You'll be happy to know that, now that we have the entire downstairs, we have been able to expand our offerings as well. We hope that you will be able to find time to come with your son again sometime and see what all new we have to offer!Thank you for your review.Best,The Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum Association
