Wrangell is a natural playground. Unless it's terrible weather, save your time and money and play outside! Unless you like artifacts and old photos, then you'll enjoy it. Not really for kids.
I never expected Wrangell to have such an extensive history. The museum curators have done an awesome job preserving the rich history and culture of Wrangell. The displays are well laid out so as not to overwhelm you but I always learn something new every time I visit the museum.
The Wrangell Museum is housed in the town's beautiful visitor center, along the waterfront. It has very informative & well-done interpretive displays covering Wrangell's history and the environment of southeast Alaska (& the admission price is very inexpensive). There is a well-stocked bookstore and gift shop next to it, and the lobby of the building has nice artifacts from Alaska Native & Russian cultures, along with other artwork pieces too. There is a separate room that has lots of brochures, pamphlets, and a very large map of the area too... The big conference room is also used as a movie theater as well (very nice place to watch films). Enjoy this very nice feature in the friendly town of Wrangell!
Displays and movie. All was interesting, and informative. Staff was very helpful. Liked the garnet display and the petroglyphs.
The Wrangell Museum tells about the history of the area through artifacts, narrations, and film. Very enlightening.
I enjoyed going deeper into how and why Wrangell exists -- this museum gives you a look at native, gold rush, military, and resources history. There was also a beautiful art and photography exhibit down the hall in a gallery room. Well worth the $5 fee!
This museum is a stand out in a town with few tourist activities. There's a lot to see and the exhibits are well presented.
This is such a small town, I didn't expect to see such an amazing museum of this size and depth. They could use some help getting their records for pictures up to speed, but overall a very nice museum.
We enjoyed our visit to this museum. It is very well done and is an excellent museum for this size of community. Only five dollars per person and well worth your time.
The quality and range of exhibits was fantastic. Great history lesson in the area. Organized very well.
This museum is a real highlight in Wrangell. It has some great artifacts and excellent local guides. If you are just visiting, you really should find 45 min to an hour for this place.
We ducked in on a rainy afternoon, but his is a good little museum for any kind of weather. Good local information and history. Interactive displays. Many artifacts. Clean building and bathrooms. Nice gift shop. For such a tiny community, this is a great museum.
Lots of artifacts and history about Tlingit, Russian, British and American governments. Very knowledgable and friendly staff.
It's difficult to make museums interesting and engaging but the people of Wrangell have managed to achieve just that with the layout of their display areas and the way the displays flow through the ages of the town's history. REALLY good selection of Alaskan literature in the book section of their museum shop.
This is a very nicely done museum of local culture and history. It is housed in a beautiful building and gives you a good overview from the original native culture, the modern day fishing, and local arts. It is surprising that a small town can have such a beautiful museum.
